Trumpetplyr Posted March 6, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 6, 2016 My parents and myself are booked to cruise in June on the Splendor. My parents are booked in to what was currently the suite that is all the way forward on deck 9. Well apparently they are adding a large suite in front of theirs and taking sq footage from the suite my parents are booked in. What recourse do they have. All suites in their category are sold out so moving isn't an option. So infuriating. Changes the entire layout of the suite. Also, we are booked into the room right next to them so just moving them will affect all of us. I was looking forward to being close to them. Jeepenfun Posted March 6, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 6, 2016 I dont know that they loose any square footage. carnivals new deck plans still says 275 s.f. but they are getting a bigger balcony. the 45 degree angle is being taken out and the forward wall moved in but it still says s.f. will be 275 and thats what it was before. Old deck plan. http://www.cruisecritic.com/carnival-splendor-deck-plans/dp/?shipID=375&deck=9 I'm not happy about loosing the forward deck above the captains bridge. My room is 9218 on our April sailing and I picked that room because its close to the forward deck access. now its gone and there doesn't seem to be stairs up to deck 10 forward deck unless you go back and take the elevators. Rare jimbo5544 Posted March 6, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 6, 2016 Interesting posts. Without looking at the deck plans, the suite forward in my recollection is a Junior suite (one on each side). If true,I have been in them (not stayed, but visited someone who was staying). I cannot think of what they could be doing to change those rooms, unless it has to do with adding Captain's Suites on 10 and scenic ocean views between. If true, the area behind the Captains suites became an AC room which could impact the rooms below (pure conjecture on my part). Op, you do not have a lot of options, but let us know how it works out. After looking at "before" and "after" deck plans, it doesn't appear that they are losing any s.f. They are squaring off the room, so while it will be sucked back a little bit, the room will go all the way across to the balcony now, which will make up the s.f. PLUS you will have a larger balcony. That kind of seems like an upgrade to me :)

k2excursion Posted March 9, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 9, 2016 It looks like they're taking away a little of the space that's closer to the door, but they're gaining that space back closer to the balcony. The end result may indeed be equal square footage, or close enough. The angle of the old room is taken away, to make the room a square, which might make for better use of the space anyway. Plus, the balcony will be larger. I would say to stick with what you got. It looks good to me. The only disappointing thing for me would be to lose that forward observation deck so close to the rooms, but at least you've got your balcony. From the new layout, it appears that they are the only 2 rooms that have a balcony. None of them had a balcony before, so it will be nice for those 2 rooms. The other rooms will just have a big window. Edited March 9, 2016 by JKirkN

going2cruz Posted March 9, 2016 #11 Share Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) When is it being dry docked? I was jut informed they replaced our 2017 September Conquest cruise with the Splendor so they can dry dock the Conquest. I trying to cancel because we booked Conquest for 2.0 upgrades. Anyone: Whens it being dry docked? Know if their receiving 2.0 upgrades? Edited March 9, 2016 by going2cruz
Florings Posted March 9, 2016 #12 Share Posted March 9, 2016 It is being dry docked this month, March. NO 2.0 upgrades at all....none, nada! Just routine maintenance and adding a few cabins.
poz222 Posted March 9, 2016 #13 Share Posted March 9, 2016 It is in drydock Now. No 2.0 upgrades (but yes to American table and playlist) just getting freshening up (fresh carpet, mattresses, casino upgrades, tiles in spa etc... ) and the captains suites being added. Its getting the entertainment 2.0 that require no structural upgrades like Hasbro games and playlist productions. Also heard from a few places the casino might be getting some new slot machines and video machine games to replace older outdated machines. JKirkN Posted March 10, 2016 #15 Share Posted March 10, 2016 They are in 9205. So it doesn't look much different...maybe a little longer balcony...and no angled wall now... looks about the same size...just nothing "fancy" anymore...

Personally I am happy Splendor is not getting Red Frog Rum Bar and Blue Iguana Tequila Bar. I feel that they take up space and impede the flow of traffic on Lido. Guy's has greasy, overcooked burgers and mushy fries and also affects traffic. Blue Iguana Burrito does have a few good choices but the toppings cart take up walking space. If only Carnival would keep her here and send a different ship to China...:( Edited March 10, 2016 by stargate fan
poz222 Posted March 10, 2016 #18 Share Posted March 10, 2016 She will still be around here for a while... I read they are pushing back the China deployments (market softening And port construction) and the Panama Canal expansion is behind schedule to boot... JKirkN Posted March 13, 2016 #19 Share Posted March 13, 2016 We just upgraded to 9200 from 7209. It was a bargain! I think that nobody on our sailing knew about the new rooms yet... We're so excited! (320 sq/ft and a huge window and no deck in front of us!!) If anyone takes a cruise before May 15th, and has one of these new rooms, please let use know if they are as nice as they look are the other ships. CantWait08 Posted March 13, 2016 #20 Share Posted March 13, 2016 I called last week to inquire about booking one of the new rooms for the first cruise after dry dock and was informed they were all booked. Would of loved to have a captains suite again.

Would of loved to have a captains suite again. That stinks :( I think we just got lucky that no one on our sailing knew about them yet. (I assume that, because the price was just a couple hundred more than we paid for an interior room on deck 7.) I'm hoping someone does a review on them before our sailing so I can see for sure what to expect. (Maybe you can sneak up and look at them if the door is open and no one is there yet...if you do, get pictures!!!) (Or maybe at the end of the cruise...they are almost always open, but maybe not cleaned up yet.) If no one does, I'll make sure to take pics before we settle in and post them up here. JKirkN Posted March 14, 2016 #24 Share Posted March 14, 2016 Are these available to book online or do I have to call only (capt suites)? You can book them online. For the May 15th sailing both of the side rooms (9200 and 9201) and 9196 are booked... but 9198, 9197, and 9199 are all available. If you get one of those and want to see our room, feel free to knock...preferably on day 1 since it will probably be messy after that! LOL.
