Belmont estate on our own possible?

We are going to be in Grenada this November and would really like to see the Belmont Estate and cocoa plantation. Is it possible to do this on our own or would we be better off to try to book with a tour company? How much would a taxi cost to go out there and is there a fee to go into the estate? If we need a tour company, who would you recommend? Thanks in advance of any input :)

From our experience last year, we visited Belmont Estate as one part of an overall, around the island tour. It was very nice and worked well with the variety of stops, sights, etc. BUT, the Belmont Estate location is not that handy and close to the main port area if you would seek to do it on your own or by taxi. I would suggest doing a tie-in with a ship or private tour that will allow you see this location and others around in this unique and special island. See more below for what and where our ship tour took us and how much we enjoyed the overall experience. Lots of picture!!

From our Jan. 25-Feb. 20, 2015, Amazon River-Caribbean combo sailing over 26 days that started in Barbados, here is the link below to that live/blog. Lots of great visuals from this amazing Brazil river and these various Caribbean Islands (Dutch ABC's, St. Barts, Dominica, Grenada, etc.) that we experienced. Check it out at:

Thank you for your input. I may look into the ship excursions when they come available and see what they offer. We're also debating on just going to Grand Anse beach for the day :D.

Good luck with your continued research and planning. Beaches are nice, but on Grenada, there are some many and varied, unique options with its natural sights, the history/tours on spices, rum, etc. Just a matter of your personal interests and what you are doing during your other island stops.
