Or son and daughter in-law have a 12 year old and an 8 year old and wAnt to do a snorkel trip. I've read several posts and am having a hard time narrowing down the various reviews. Should they book through Royal Carribean or book on their own. They're leaning towards booking on their own. Amy suggestions of who to use is appreciated. Thanks.

Good snorkeling is available from the shore at either the Chankanaab Marine Park (plus dolphins and other sea life shows ;)) or the Money Bar Beach club.

We used Eagle Ray for a snorkel trip a few years ago and were happy -- Fury catamaran and a few others are often suggested on this board.

You can usually save $$ and enjoy a less crowded experience by booking on your own compared to using the ship excursions - Coz is easy and safe.

Trust me on this one. Cab it to the Moneybar. Some cab drivers will suggest other places but tell them you want the Moneybar and they will take you for about $10.

Claim a table -- there will be plenty -- and meet the waiter. If you want to snorkel now, do so but let him know that you will buy something later. Regardless, now or later, grab a drink or 2 and maybe an appetizer -- or a complete meal. Just buy something and they are reasonable. I don't know for certain this is required, but it is courteous.

You can bring your own gear or rent from a little stand there. They also offer massages, parasailing, kayaks, etc.

BTW, if you snorkel some place like Roatan or Cayman, Cozumel may be a little disappointing. The water isn't as clear and the fish are hit / miss but you will see a few interesting things. Since you have little ones to keep up with, you may want to check the current. We've been pushed south before and the swim back can be taxing. If it seems to be a problem, just hang out close to the entry steps.
