Oasis 3/26 thoughts

Recommended Posts

Just off Oasis this past Saturday. Was an amazing vacation all around. Just wanted to share some thoughts in relation to what I noticed on here before my trip.

Tipping- The 12.95 goes to wait staff, room attendants, and bar staff. These people don't make much money, but work harder than anyone I encounter in my daily life. I left a few bucks each night in the MDR, and a 20 on the last night. In the grand scheme of things, it's really not that hard to do. I tipped when ordering drinks most of the time. I also left a 20 for my room attendant. If you're one to complain about tipping the staff that works this hard, then maybe you should rethink things because it's very petty to let something like this bother you.

Crowds- Did not encounter massive crowds on the trip. The ship is big enough with enough to do to avoid things like this.

Drinks- There was two of us. We bought one drink package. Yes, we shared. Yes, we had A LOT of drinks. Yes, I'll probably get crucified on here for admitting this. And yes, I don't care. And here's why. The cost of the trip and the amount I spent on board are the reason why I felt no remorse or regret in doing this. The thing that balanced it out was my casino play and a conversation I overheard of a guy saying his wife has been using her card all week to get drinks thinking she had a package when she didn't. There's always gonna be someone else somewhere making up the difference, and in this case it was a woman who had no concept of money because of how much her husband probably made. RCI makes more than enough money to where something like this means nothing to me. They're gonna tweak prices regardless of any decisions I made.

All 10s- I got the ten speech from my MDR server that was debated endlessly and pettily a few weeks back. I simply told him not to worry and he's doing an amazing job. I veered on the side of caution and thought if it as a yes or no, where 9-10 most likely means yes and 0-8 most likely means no as far as satisfaction goes. I didn't pucker my lips and put my chin up and overthink it like some said they do. There's nothing in it for me or anyone else to overthink this survey. No one on the staff did anything that rubbed me the wrong way, and I felt no reason to do anything that can possibly detrimental to their job security. Every staff member I encountered was pleasant and outgoing. The ship was spotless and there was always something being cleaned, even when it bordered on unnecessary.

All that being said, I'll be glad to answer any questions anyone has about Oasis.

Drink cards were available by the second half of day 3. The ads for packages stayed up for the entire week, but by days 6 and 7, they only showed RR and Select. Day 7 just showed RR. I'm assuming it meant you can still get them as it was the same ads as early in the week, only fewer options.

Thanks, that's the earliest I've heard of the cards being offered.

The drink card was $79. Previous poster is mistaken. Earliest I saw was day 4. I spent most of the night of day 3 at Globe and Atlas and don't recall seeing the card advertised.

Thanks, that's more in line with what other ships have done.

What do you get with a drink card?

The ones I've most often seen are 10 drinks for a set price of around $75. The drinks can be anything you could get with the Premium drink package. Nice thing is you can share this card with whoever you like.

Hi there. Can I ask how you were able to share drink package? Did the servers and bartenders just look the other way...or did you have to sneaky in sharing your drinks?

It was under wife' name. In the MDR, they would just bring two. Some bartenders just held up two fingers and she would shake her head yes. If they asked for my card, I'd give it. If not, then score. Other times, she wouldn't want one, but would get one anyway because eventually one of us would drink it. We also tipped often and were very friendly with the bartenders. I'm not condoning it because I don't want anyone to get booted from their ship or charged a bunch of money, but it's honestly not the worst thing in the world like some make it out to be. Like I said, RCI is gonna tweak the prices here and there regardless, and with the money spent, we owed it to ourselves to cut one corner.

I just read where the cruise industry is making a boat-load of cash. First they are saving Hugh on fuel and on top of that they have raised prices on the cruise itself. I don't drink but if you want to double dip then I say have at it.
