sisocialworker Posted April 8, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2016 will the ship help someone learn using the ship pool?
Capt_BJ Posted April 8, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2016 (edited) Sorry - this is gonna sound harsh BUT a non-swimmer is a non-snorkeler IMO if you can not swim you do not belong in water deeper than your ankles I spent a VERY long time as a life guard and have pulled way too many people out of the water who thought they were good swimmers. An admitted non-swimmer has no business out there. A snorkel vest is no substitute for swimming skills ... it is SAFETY BACK UP for a swimmer not a crutch for a non-swimmer you are never too old to learn how to swim . . . I've taught people how to swim in under an hour .... Edited April 8, 2016 by Capt_BJ
sisocialworker Posted April 8, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted April 8, 2016 generally, no. Where you are, according to your post, is certainly an area where there are plenty of dive shops. Many dive shops run classes or know someone who does. I recommend you seek one out. An exception MIGHT be the RCL ships that offer on board SCUBA DIVER classes. You may find someone there willing to do a snorkel class for you on the ship (but I would not hold my breath .... I'm sure there would be liability issues) Most snorkel excursions that provide equipment offer a quick "how to" class . . . . but IMO you would be better served to seek out a dive shop b4 your trip . . . thank you...appreciate your input
Capt_BJ Posted April 9, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2016 you caught my first reply - before I saw 'non swimmer' and before my second post amazing timing ....... if you can't swim do not go on a snorkel excursion ... PLEASE
Capt_BJ Posted April 19, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 19, 2016 LATE DATE but for folks who find this thru a search ... found this on a FAQ for a snork' trip excursion .... What do I need to bring on the snorkeling tour? The most important thing to bring is an ability to swim. The crew conducts a "how to snorkel" class on the boat for those who have never snorkeled, but you do need to be able to swim. We provide you with a safety vest (Our Insurance companies require them to be worn at all times in the water) and you can rent mask, snorkel, and fins or use your own. zoncom Posted May 9, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 9, 2016 Good replies BJ. Everyone in FL should learn to swim. Pools have adult lessons. I am also concerned that folks like this stand on coral and kill it.There is so little coral left.
