NickAndysMom Posted April 10, 2016 #26 Share Posted April 10, 2016 Thanks to those who weighed in regarding Maker's Mark Manhattans! In deciding whether or not to purchase the Premium package, it would be helpful to know the purchase price of a Maker's Mark Manhattan. Anybody happen to know? I'm thinking probably at least $12 + 18% gratuity = about $14 each. So, I think we would have to drink 4 per day to break even. I don't think I'd drink more than 3, but I would probably want at least a couple bottles of water each day, and maybe a glass of wine with dinner. That might just about make it worth it to buy the drink package, especially if I can get a 20% discount. I will keep checking online for the discount! AwesomeO81 Posted April 10, 2016 #28 Share Posted April 10, 2016 Side note--- As far as actually paying the difference goes, it's really gonna depend on the bartender. I (my gf, actually) rarely paid the difference cause I (she) always handed them a dollar with her sea pass card. AwesomeO81 Posted April 10, 2016 #29 Share Posted April 10, 2016 Im just gping to piggy back on here and ask..Can you upgrade your package purchase if you change your mind once you board ? Yes, but honestly, there's no point. Ultimate just adds Evian (aka pool water) and premium coffee from Royal Promenade, which isn't much better than the included coffee. Unless Starbucks is included, which I never checked, cause the line was always crazy. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

cruiseguy1016 Posted April 10, 2016 #31 Share Posted April 10, 2016 So, July 24th will be my family's first cruise and we will be onboard the Allure. We will have two teenage boys (15) and am debating getting the soda (or whatever it's called) package. How does it work? Do they have to carry a bottle around with them to use the machines? Does anyone know the price of just the soda package? Thanks in advance--told you I'm new to all of this :) The cost is $8 per day for the Royal Refreshment (soda) package. You will get a souvenir cup that you use at the self serve fountain machines. If you don't want to carry the cup all over the ship with you, you can ask for a soda at the bar and they will either pour you a glass or give you the can. http://media.royalcaribbean.com/content/shared_assets/pdf/menus/beverage_packages.pdf

Dork42775 Posted April 11, 2016 #34 Share Posted April 11, 2016 I am purchasing the Ultimate drink package this week on my Brilliance sailing. My question is where can or can not get drinks? Is it valid throughout the entire ship including theatres, casino, main dining room, ...? Also can you purchase it anywhere on the ship when getting on or just certain places? Valid throughout the ship, except for room service and items in your mini-fridge. Purchase it at tables set up when you embark, or at bars. Is it valid throughout the entire ship including theatres, casino, main dining room, ...? Also can you purchase it anywhere on the ship when getting on or just certain places? Anywhere, anytime.....almost. In the specialty restaurants we had a challenge with wines that were more than the $14 per glass allowance. Sometimes they just charge you the up charge and sometimes they have told us the more expensive wines by the glass are not allowed at all on our drink package. It has been inconsistent across three cruises. Just be sure you are clear if you are dining in a specialty restaurant and ordering wine that costs more per glass than the package allows. We have always been told that any bartender can sell you the package when you board.
Firsttimerspk Posted April 12, 2016 #37 Share Posted April 12, 2016 Hi, we are booked on the navigator of the seas and our package includes the select drinks package. We would want to upgrade to the ultimate package to allow cocktails and spirits. Can we upgrade before we sail or do we do it onboard? Also as a first time cruiser is there a wine menu from which to choose on the main dining room for a glass of wine that is not from the select package? You have to upgrade after you are onboard. The Main Dining Room will have a wine list, which will have a few glasses available that are covered with the Select package. Here is an example from a different ship: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=49238603&postcount=
AZAficionado Posted April 12, 2016 #39 Share Posted April 12, 2016 I got the Premium Package on Legend about a year ago. The few times I had to pay the difference for a drink, the bartender had to get out a ladder to get the bottle. There are very few liquors or drinks that aren't fully covered. Examples of liquors that require paying the difference: Remy Martin XO cognac, Louis XII cognac, Grand Marnier 100 or 125, 20+ year old single malt scotch. Wine is a different story. There is a fair selection of fully covered wines by the glass. Most of the non-covered wines are often $2 extra a glass. I did Chef's Table (comes with paired wines) with the Package on Legend and nothing was covered. Although, many of the wines poured were not available by the glass or bottle. It includes virgin frozen drinks, which isn't always list on the links. So they can have soft drinks and also get their frozen daiquiris. Just something to think about instead of the basic soda package. Also good for adults that don't want alcohol, but still want a frozen daiquiri. Goodtime Cruizin Posted April 14, 2016 #43 Share Posted April 14, 2016 If you want spirits go for the Premium. The ultimate is the same in terms of alcohol as the premium, but it includes specialty coffee, fresh squeezed OJ, etc. and mineral water too. Klstaack Posted April 20, 2016 #46 Share Posted April 20, 2016 Yes the cost of the package includes gratuities. However, we normally tip a little extra on some drinks..not all of the time though. Just whenever the mood strikes to be a little more generous. We noticed a difference in service when we added extra tips on the bill.

If they are, I think it would be beneficial to me to buy some OBC and then buy the drinks package on board rather than pay GBP before the cruise.
