Dinning On Enchanment?

I am going on The Enchanment of the Seas on Dec. 5, 05:D and was wondering what night was formal night and what night did they serve the lobster. We are wanting to eat at Chops but also do not want to miss either of these nights. We will be on the Key west, Cozumel, and Belize cruise. We have been on the other western cruise on the Enchanment but forget what night was what and was wondering if it was even the same. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

Having just completed this cruise yesterday, Oct 15, I can say that formal night is the same night as the Key West port call. As the ship leaves port at about 2:00PM, you have plenty of time to spruce up for the event.

 

We ate at Chops Grill on formal night, so I cannot say if lobster was served that night in the dining room. I'm certain the maitre d' can tell you which night it is if someone here doesn't. Chops Grill was very pleasant with large windows. It even has an open kitchen so you can watch your food being prepared.

 

By the way, when we went the first day of the cruise to make reservations for Chops Grill, they told us not to delay because the restaurant has been experiencing great demand and has had to have a waiting list. I guess that is because there is no Portofino to draw off alternative dining. When we ate at Chops, even though we began at 6:00PM, the place was full by the time we left and that was formal night!

 

I'll also add as an aside, that the Windjammer can get very crowded at certain times. I have been on four other RCI ships and never experienced that degree of crowding in the Windjammer. That was one thing about this cruise that disappointed me, but the happening Boleros Lounge more than made up for that.

Not sure of your itinerary, but we were on a 4-night Enchantment cruise in March '05 (prior to the stretch, so not sure what has changed). There was NOT lobster on the formal night. At that time, our waiter told us that lobster was served on the 5-night cruises, but not the 4-night.

We are on the November 7 sailing so if no-one posts an answer before then, I'll let you know. I hope someone does post, however, as I want to eat at Chops on Caribbean night and would like to make my reservation when we get on board as I understand reservations do fill up quickly. Don't want to miss out on that tender beef! ;)

We just finished our 5-Night cruise on Enchantment (Oct 10-15). The lobster was served on Thursday night, which was the day in Belize.

 

I would also agree that Windjammer could get pretty busy during breakfast. But then again, the ship was sold out last week. We had breakfast in the dining room one morning trying to avoid the crowds. The food was great and the service was fast.

We thought the breakfast menu in the dining room was pretty extensive. It included: pancakes (plain and blueberry), omelets, eggs to order, fresh fruit, hot and cold cereals, eggs benedict, lox & bagels, french toast, juices and bread and danish pastries . Oh, and kippered herring. A gentleman at the table had ordered it, that's the only way I would have remembered it! In the Windjammer, you can get omelets and eggs cooked to order too.

Do you happen to remember which night was the caribbean menu?

Also, did they offer any sort of special price on Chops for the first night? On our NCL cruise this year, the covercharge restaurants were half price the first two nights and wondering if RC did something similar.

shirleygr--No, there were no discounts at Chops on any night that we heard about. We didn't go, but heard from several that it was fabulous. I don't remember there being a 'Caribbean' themed menu. If you know what kind of items are on it, maybe it would jog my memory. There was a night, Wed. (Cozumel) where Caribbean attire was "welcome after dinner". That is according to the Cruise Compass for that day. And thanks, we had just the best time ever!

Another wonderful thing about the Chops Grill I'd like to add. I am a vegetarian, so little on the menu besides salad and a few veggies appealed to me, but the chef prepared me an excellent pasta dish. I say this to show how hard working and eager to please the staff is at Chops. I cannot find enough words to parise them adequately.

 

Oh, Chops also had an impressive looking slice of salmon for fish eaters.

Bayer, I just remember there being a jerked chicken one night that wasn't really good. I love jerk, but this just didn't do it for me. I don't remember what else was available, but maybe that will help jog your memory. I am thinking of doing Chops on our first night as the 7th (our first night) is our actual anniversary and a lovely romantic dinner sounds just fantastic.

So happy to hear you had a great time. What did you do in the ports? Any of the shows on the ship really fabulous?

Sorry, but I just can't recall a Caribbean themed dinner menu. There was an Italian theme one evening, but that's the only themed evening I can remember. In Key West we simply walked around. There were a couple of places that we wanted to get to: Kermit's Key West Lime Shoppe and Sloppy Joes (a 'famous' bar for a beer). We made it to both and many other stores for shopping. We stopped at a little place and had conch fritters (a first for us) and shared those with a chicken. Yes, a chicken. In some areas, there are free roaming chickens. It was actually kind of cute. In Cozumel we did a ship-sponsored excursion. We went on the Horseback Riding Adventure at Buena Vista Ranch. I was brand new at horseback riding where my DH had done alot of riding in college. At the Ranch they gave enough instruction so we all (about 25 of us in our group) felt comfortable enough to ride. We were on the horses about 1 1/2 hours and returned to their cantina for complimentary sodas and beer. We had a great day there. In Belize we did just a little bit of shopping in the morning, but had to be back to the ship for an excursion by 12:30pm. We took the ship-sponsored excursion Barrier Reef Snorkel and Beach at Rendezvous Caye. That was really, really, great. The water was a bit choppy but the sights snorkeling were just simply beautiful. After everyone is out of the water, they freely pour rum punch and sodas. We then traveled to the Caye and that was just beautiful as well. I hope I'm not boring you!! There were some very good shows on the ship. The first night was comedian David Orion and he is so very funny. I'm glad we saw the show that night. There were two nights where the ship's singers and dancers performed. Most of these performers are exceptionally talented. Also, the last night there was a juggler named Billy Prudhomme. But he is so much more than a juggler, he is so very funny too. I hope I've answered your questions without boring you to tears! I'd be happy to answer anything else......:)

Bayer, thanks for the great information on EOS. We are first time cruisers and have a couple of questions. How soon were you able to board? Did you carry any alcohol on with you (we are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and would like to bring some champagne)? How is the casino? What is the most casual attire you saw on formal night? We want to see the Altun Ha Mayan Ruins in Belize but don't see a ship sponsored tour so thinking about hooking up with Coral Breeze which many people have recommended - any thoughts on that? I'm still confused about drinks on the ship - water, tea, lemonade are free but soda and alcohol are not? What's the most economical way to purchase soda and/or alcoholic drinks? Whew! Guess that was more than a couple! We are sooo excited - only 2 months and 1 week to go - yeah!!!!

HawkeyeGrandama, Our flight arrived at FLL at 12:15pm, checked in with RCCL by 12:30pm and were on the ship at 2PM. We were able to go straight to our cabin. That was great, we were already tired of lugging the carry-ons. We did not carry on any alcohol. But as I understand, they won't say anything to you as long as it is something (say a particlar wine) they don't have on the ship. But there is great discussion on carrying on alcohol on many threads here on CC. You've got it right on the none alcoholic beverages. We are not soda drinkers, so it was not an issue for us. Several of our dinner tablemates did purchase the soda package and all they had to do was show their seapass card that had the special sticker. The only free alcohol that I saw was the 1 free drink at the Captain's Reception. But I have heard about free champagne at an art auction. Regarding the excursions, we felt more comfortable booking through the ship given we were traveling during hurricane season. So many ships have had their itineraries changed, we didn't want to prepay something then not even be at that port. Clothing on formal night -- ladies were wearing from little black dinner dresses to long gowns to cocktail dresses with alot of sparkle. There weren't that many gowns, but I was still surprised at how many there were. There were also many black slacks and 'sparkly' tops. I didn't see a single tux. Most all men were in suits. For the smart casual night it is recommend the men wear jackets. My DH was the only one with a jacket that night! The casino-- I actually thought it was kind of small. But that is just my opinion. I've been to Atlantic City a couple of times where the casinos seem to never end! I hope this is helpful to you!

How cold/warm were the rooms, dinning, and others? I am wondering if I need to bring a sweater, or some type of cover to wear to cover my arms.

 

How dressy of a sweater is needed?

What about evening out on the deck? Is the breeze cool?

Hi, Bayer. No, you did not bore me. I love reading about others' cruise experiences. No worries about the dinners. We'll find out once we get on board. I'm still leaning toward Chops on our first night, as that is our actual anniversary. Do you remember what they had in the dining room on the first night?

I love KW, and Kermit's has the BEST frozen key lime pie on a stick. We always try to get there for a pie wedge and a cup of coffee from the coffee bar next door. We are planning to get to the winery this time around, and hopefully see the cemetery, two things I've wanted to do for sometime now.

We hope to actually get to Cozumel, but not sure how long clean up is going to be after Wilma. If we do get there, we are booked with Eagle Ray Divers for their half day snorkel excursion. We are doing the cave tubing with Coral Breeze in Belize and hopefully that will happen as well.

Thanks for the info on the shows. I love the comedians and jugglers, so I'll be sure to check those out.

 

For curious, I always bring a sweater with me. It is always chilly in the public rooms, especially the show lounges and the dining room. I have a nice simple black sweater that goes with everything. I also have a beaded wrap for formal night. Hope this helps!

We were on the "Wilma" cruise of EOS. The dining room was wonderful. The Windjammer breakfast was disgusting to say the least. It was inedible.

to be the case on our EOS cruise. We only ate at the Windjammer for breakfast once--most mornings we had breakfast on the balcony ;)--but the day we were there, the selections were good and well presented. We had lunch there three times and found it to be very good.

The beverage selections were as stated in imatarb's post. Enjoy.

I never did see the jerk chicken on the menu so I have a hunch it may have been the first night. We ate in Chops the first night as that was our actual anniversary. It was wonderful. We were pretty much the only people in there. Talk about personalized attention! My husband had the fillet and I had the prime rib. I felt it was so worth the money. Unfortunately, it kinda spoiled us for the dining room after that, but we survived somehow. ;)

According to our tablemates, the first night they did have prime rib. The second night was formal (fillet and escargot), the third night was Italian, the fourth night was lobster, and the fifth night didn't really have a theme. I remember getting steak that night. I think the turkey may have been on the menu that night. I would think that would be a good night to skip too.

Hope your cruise is as wonderful as ours.
