So back towards the main topic (and away from the troll)---my view is that Captain Anderson handled the ship extremely well in very difficult conditions.

 

Not only did he show himself to be capable; he now has more experience with a mega ship (or at least a Quantum style ship) in high winds and rough seas than anyone--making him a particularly desirable captain to have at the helm at such a ship.
