We have a cruise booked for September that we may have to cancel. We did get trip insurance and we havent paid our final payment yet.

How hard is it to cancel? We want to rebook later in the year or the first part of next year. Just found out wr may have a work conflict. Any advice or experience?

Since you're before your Paid in Full date, a cancellation means you'll get all your money back (for the cruise). Unless you've booked Concierge.

Trip insurance won't apply. But you won't get your money back that you paid for the insurance. It may be possible that the insurance could be transferred to a new cruise. You should call the insurance company and ask how to handle that.

OR, you can move whatever monies you've already paid to another cruise. One note, you'll be paying the prevailing prices for the new cruise, not what the prices were on the day made your original booking.

Not hard at all. Just call or write DCL and tell them you want to cancel. Or your TA will have to do this, if you used one.

As above....we have canceled cruises and moved private insurance to a new cruise.

If you bought trip insurance thru DCL, they will not have made the purchase yet and you will get that money refunded. If you booked private trip insurance, you will not get a refund. Whether you are permitted to move it to another date or not depends on the terms of that policy.

If you cancel a DCL cruise before the penalty date, you will get a full refund. Alternatively, you can have them transfer the money you have paid to a new cruise, in which case you will get a replacement confirmation showing the new cruise. I was told it can take up to 6 weeks to get a refund, but in my case it took less than 2 weeks.

As noted, if you booked thru a TA, you must cancel thru the same TA. In any event, do not leave this detail till the last minute. Give them as much notice as you can once you are sure you need to cancel.

As Shmoo noted, rescheduling does not mean that you just swap one week for another. It means that you cancel the current cruise and book the new cruise at the current price--it may be more or less than the cruise you cancel.

If your booking is concierge level, you can transfer the money to a new cruise but cannot receive a refund.
