Elbe River Cruise; late Aug or early Oct?

Ready to book an Elbe river cruise, but looking for opinions from those who have done one as to the best time for water levels and weather. Have a choice of last week of Aug or first or second week of Oct.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks!

We sailed on the Elbe river mid October, around October 12th IIRC.... we had very nice weather, except for one rainy day in Dresden. Not sure about times of year for high/low water levels - but we enjoyed our trip and the fall colors were beautiful.

I tend to stay away from Europe in August, when the locals have their summer holiday break. Also, it can be very hot in some parts of Europe, we visited Berlin and Prague on our own, pre and post cruise - 5 nights extra at each end. Both cities are very interesting, and lots to see outside of Prague itself in day trips (Cseky Krumlov, Terezin, Kutna Hora, castle visits, etc).
