swodog94 Posted April 20, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2016 So just saw that Grandeur of the Seas has a south east coast (US) and Bahamas itinerary this October. Ports are Charleston, Port Canaveral, Miami, Nassau, and Cococay. It sounds pretty interesting. Has anybody done this itinerary in the past or is this the first time it's being offered? Also, if anybody has specific comments about the US ports, I'm interested in your take on them. Thanks!
Rare rafinmd Posted April 20, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 20, 2016 I'm pretty sure this is the first time. I'm technically booked on one but will likely cancel as I've added some other plans. Sadly, it isn't offered in July when I will likely rebook. I think I saw Navy in your signature so I'm not sure how this will go over but you might be interested in Patriots Point in Charleston with a carrier, sub and some other ships and stuff. You can get there by a water taxi that leaves near the Aquarium. In Miami, there's a free trolley that runs from near terminal J to downtown and Coral Gables. Depending on where you dock that could be an option for independent exploring. If you dock where Enchantment/Majesty normally dock it should be easy to either use that or walk across the causeway. RadioRob Posted April 20, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 20, 2016 It's a new itinerary for Grandeur, but the ports for the most part are not new. Last May, we were on a Bahamas cruise from Baltimore where we stopped in Port Canaveral, Nassau, and Cococay. (No Miami stop and no stop in SC.) For my family, we've been to FL so many times it's not funny so we did not get off the ship. Nassau was OK, but not great... but we absolutely LOVED Cococay. I love Charleston and I have never been to Miami to actually tour around- it has only been to arrive and board for me so this is nice. I just booked this for January 14. Really looking forward to it as i only live 15 minutes drive from the Port of Baltimore and i love the ease of check in there- walk in, 15 minutes later i am onboard headed for the windjammer! luvscruising2007 Posted April 20, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 20, 2016 (edited) We just booked a similar itinerary for April 5, 2018. Our cruise will go to Grand Bahama Island instead of Miami. Need to check that out. DH would love to visit the military attraction in Charleston. Edited April 20, 2016 by luvscruising2007
Janet524 Posted April 20, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 20, 2016 Book this for a girl's Cruise in February. Looking forward to Charleston a favorite of mine. Thankful do an Excursion to the Kennedy Space Center at Canaveral. Don't know much about touring around in Miami but will probably do the ship Excursion since BFF cannot walk great distances. I've heard some less than complementary remarks about the Freeport cruise docking area.

Also, if anybody has specific comments about the US ports, I'm interested in your take on them. Thanks! I did this one for the first time this past January and i loved visiting the new port of Charleston (new for me). I like the market and i took a horse drawn carriage ride around Charleston which was fun. Great shopping. Miami i took a double decker bus tour around Miami and went shopping (awesome shopping) and just looked in some of the high end shops. I did not go to the beach or anything else. (i am 60 so younger people would have more interesting things to do most likely lol) Port Canaveral i have done so many times- you can go to Disney or Sea World or one of the parks for the day or you can go into Cocoa Beach which is a very nice beach with great restaurants and dont forget Ron Jon's surf shop while you are there. Also there is the Space Center. Nassau i usually buy a day pass to Melia resort and you can take a jitney bus which you catch about 3 blocks from where the ship lets you off and it will cost $1.25 each way (have exact change because the driver doesnt have any). It takes you to the front of Melia and will pick you back up across the street. 20 minute ride tops. Melia has i think three beautiful pools, some with waterfalls, etc., a beautiful beach, i think my pass cost me around $45 which includes chairs, towels, umbrellas and they have a buffet that you can visit that costs extra (not worth $35 IMHO) or you can just get off the ship walk out of the area go to the right go pass senor frogs and follow that around to the right and go to the British Colonial Hilton and their day pass is $65 but includes $40 in food and beverages (you can get a burger and a couple of drinks with that). Or you can always go to Paradise Island and visit Atlantis, go to the casino or whatever. Cococay is a great Royal Carribean area that has some little shops, excursions, a beautiful beach with large water features like slides, a climbing thing etc. Also has hammacks around, a great cookout style luncheon buffet etc. These are just some of the highlights- it is a really nice itinerary in my opinion. So much so that i am doing it again next February. :D
