apandjcrew5 Posted April 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2016 Hi all! Need some help choosing in some of my ports. My husband and I are sailing July 2 from Barcelona on the Equinox. It is our first time to Europe. One stop is in Genoa Italy and I am trying to decide between Cinque Terre and Portofino which includes a drive to Santa Margherita, boat to Portofino and then back to Ravallo. Any help would be appreciated!! I also need help on the Amalfi Coast. Would definately want to see Pompeii but also must see the Amalfi Coast. I believe if we choose Pompeii, Capri and Sorrentino we would not see the Amalfi Coast? If we choose Pompeii, Sorrentino and Positano we would am I right? Also would you prefer seeing the coast from the road or from the water. Thanks for all your help!!
FawnRiver Posted April 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2016 Can't help you with Genoa (haven't made it there....yet) We did a tour off of the Island Princess last September and went to a farm, Sorrento and then Pompeii. We saw a little bit of the Amalfi Coast, but not a lot. A new tunnel has been constructed through the mountains, so the tour buses don't have to negotiate the roads along the coast any more to get into the Sorrento area. We had wanted to see the Amalfi Coast from the water, but that tour was cancelled, so we had to go with our next best option.
Rare mskaufman Posted April 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2016 In our two trips to Naples we went to the Amalfi Coast both times. First time by water and the second by land. I would say if you are going to Cinque Terre, try the water trip as it is a different perspective. Here are links to pictures from each: https://markandkareneurope2012.shutterfly.com/pictures/973 https://markandkareneurope2013.shutterfly.com/pictures/
b_cruise Posted April 26, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 26, 2016 Yes, you will love the Cinque Terre. I highly recommend. Another highlight (s) for me was Positano and Sorrento.

You are correct -- if you take a tour that includes Pompeii, Capri and Sorrento, you will NOT be visiting the Amalfi coast. However, if you take the other tour, which includes Positano, you will.
