kasi1979 Posted April 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2016 We are looking at a cruise aboard Koningsdam leaving Amsterdam in late May. As we are travelling with my parents and mom is no longer able to walk a longer way, what the best and most economic place to park your car? Ine Posted April 27, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2016 This will be no surprise to you, parking in Amsterdam is difficult and very expensive. There is a parking garage underneath the cruise terminal, but parking is also possible a bit farther away. Check this website for more details: http://www.ptamsterdam.nl/en/cruises/contact#attainability
FreestyleNovice Posted April 27, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2016 With the Piet Hein garage running at almost 50 Euro a day you might want to consider using Hertz for two one way rentals for your travel. Hertz has a branche inside the PTA so picking up and dropping off the car should be a breeze. Luckily the PTA is a bit out of the crowded centre otherwise I would not recommend parking a vehicle with a foreign license plate for more than a period of days in a downtown garage in Amsterdam. Small crime happens a lot despite CCTV, most garages are only staffed during the day. Not saying there's a problem but the risk is simply larger, you wouldn't be the first tourist to see your car's window broken and car searched through when you leave your car unattended for an extended period of time.. the only thing that might help is leaving the dashboard storage open, no bags or valuables in sight on the seats and leave the trunk roller blind in the open position so your trunk content (which should be nothing) visible to the outside.
