The river Moselle infos and river cruising experiences

At Konz, the name derives from the Roman villa that had stood there, the Saar river flows into the Moselle. Most of the international lines only go to Trier or if they sail further upstream, sail past Konz to Remich or another port in Luxembourg. German lines and the big international exception, the French company CroisiEurope, regularly go up the Saar. Not too often but the itineraries are available throughout most months of the year. If you wanted to make sure you feel at ease only speaking English CroisiEurope and Viva Cruises would be good options for Saar river cruises, a couple of British company with chartered ship itineraries also take you onto the Saar. But do check out the other German lines. I have had a look at which ships are on the Saar today. They are: the Swiss Ruby, the Amadeus Brilliant, the Amadeus Elegant, the Zwaan (a boat & bike barge), and the Leonardo da Vinci. That is more than I expected.

Again this year, Saar river cruises come in a few varieties together with the Moselle and the Rhine, but the most frequent offer is Saar, Moselle, Rhine and Neckar together. The most unusual one is the one from Nancy-Frouard to Saarbrücken and in it completely ignoring both the Rhine and much of the German Moselle. I like that one actually. It will have a different feel to any other river cruise as you have the combination of Lorraine, Luxembourg, the border Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saar valley with its "earthy" people that somehow manage to have many Michelin-Star rated restaurants and an affinity for the French way of life (so people say).
