I realize a closed thread Means , people can No longer reply . But why is a thread closed, by the op or host?????

Closed by the Host.

Some times they do get a bit nasty;)

Especially smoking posts.

Only our hosts can close a thread not the OP or any other member. A thread is closed usually after the host had to delete posts that violated community guidelines. Which I encourage you to read again (which you agreed to when signing up ) as starting a thread to comment on deleted posts or threads or any other actions by our hosts is also a guideline violation.

Occasionally a thread will get so large, it slows the cruise critic servers down. They close the thread and open a new one as Part 2.

They will also close a thread if it is getting too rude or crude.

Often the question by the OP has been answered multi times and it has become totally off topic ... some even begin saying ugly things to each other.

Sometimes it's not just "locked" but totally removed.

There's always a good reason for the mods to do this.
