I have a great cruise friend and she has a lot of cruise friends and she doesn't know anyone that ever made it there to GSC. and she was canceled 2 times and so was I.

Too bad! We have made it there 3 out of 3 times. So this problem must be something bigger.

We missed their private island on the April 30 sailing… And they said it was due to the same problem, maintenance on the Azipod I'm not sure what it is or how long it takes to fix it but it does seem like it takes quite a while! Yet it doesn't seem to affect any other part of the ship but putting the anchor down at their private island? I don't get it

Harriet, we are sailing on the gem 5/21 and was wondering if the casino is open anytime while their dock in Nassau overnight. Private island canceled so we are there from we'd 11am till thurs 6pm. Any info will help. Lin

Hi Marion. I thought that because we are staying overnight they would maybe open the casino Wednesday night. Guess we will have to go to Atlantis and try our luck. Who knows we may get lucky. See u soon. Lin

P.S it won't hurt to check to see if it's open

but I really doubt it being that they have to

adhere to Bahama Laws!

Let's hope the casino is open wed night so I won't be losing points for a day ,which can add up to a lot. Last time at Atlantis l left them some money. Lin

I have been following this tread - ever since my friend called to let me know he and his family are on (5/14/2016 sailing ) He arrived at 11:00 was on with in minutes, having lunch. - he did say they are not going to the private ( we all know that ) And was told the casino will be open -

This has happen to a few of the cruises I have been on - it take some doing to get it fixed -

Now as far as the 50.00 obc - they (NCL) do not have to do anything - - I was on Dawn after the rouge way hit the ship - it came in a day late and many cancelled - the crew and officers could not do enough for us passengers - dinners in specialty restaurants, obc- 250.00 - it's been awhile I know there was more -

On my very first cruise - one of the crew members had to be air lifted - another was on our way home from Bermuda we had to turn back - passenger had to brought to the hospital - -

Can't change what we can not control - make the best of it - think of it as an experience - and it gives us one more thing to talk about here on CC -

Yes the casino was open in the evening when we stayed overnight due to missing their private island. There must be some exception they make.

My wife and son left this morning and were told the 5/21/16 cruise is also skipping the private island in addition to their cruise.

Something very fishy going on?

Yes we got the e-mail, I don't think there is

anything fishy going on, sometimes it just

takes longer then expected . We are just

glad that they are not canceling the entire

cruise.

I think it's a bit more difficult to correct a

problem on a ship, after all it has to be done

underwater.

Actually cancelling GSC before the cruise starts is better than getting there and not being able to tender because of weather or rough seas. We were in Nassau by noon, so we had two great afternoons, but when they last minute cancel GSC the ship does not hit Nassau until 6PM. So my glass was half full.

Yes, this way everbody can plans if they to

do something for that day / night.

We where disapointed at first, because we do

love the Island and have been lucky that we

have not missed it yet.

Now we are actually looking forward of being in

Nassau overnight.

The extra day in Nassau is way better than tendering to GSC! In Nassau you can go to the local beach which isn't that far from where the ship docks, do a tour each day, shop for 2 days or any combination thereof. We really enjoyed "The Charms of Nassau" on the second day that took us all over the island and even on the grounds of Atlantis in just 3 hrs. On day one we took the Astrid Gardens tour and were face to face with the flamingos and took great photos of them. Both tours were well organized and frequent stops were made for photos and restroom breaks. Plus, don't forget the extra $50 OBC!

Just returned from the 5/7 sailing on the Gem and they were really working on the ship on day 2 in Nassau. Saw the diver return from under the ship around 6 PM. He was shaking his head and gesturing with his hands and clearly he was not happy. He looked tired, peeled off the top of his wetsuit and sat down to smoke a cigarette. There was a group of people (techs, etc.) working on the ship even after sunset. We had a very smooth trip down and back. Even the Capt. commented on the smooth seas. However, when we left Port Canaveral we were in the very front of the ship watching the show and you could feel the ship vibrate a lot (almost thought the ceiling was going to fall on us!) and hear the noise. We glided out of Nassau on the way back to NY.

Clearly, something major happened to the propulsion system on the 5/1sailing that required more worktime/replacement parts. It was a good that they had worktime in Nassau or else several sailings would have been cancelled.

Thank you for that, it just takes care of a few

peeps that think that there is something else

going on. It just takes longer to correct issues

on a ship, and we are just Thankfull that our

cruise is not cancelled .

The Gem will probably keep missing GSC until the repairs to the propulsion system are fully completed. Tendering at best is a hit and miss situation. Add a faulty propulsion system and you could have a serious potential for passenger injuries from rough surf and going from a bobbing ship to a bobbing tender and missing your footing.

You have easy access to a beach in Port Canaveral or Nassau not to mention the extra $50 OBC for missing GSC and an extra day in Nassau.
