lor74 Posted June 3, 2016 #951 Share Posted June 3, 2016 (edited) Finally made it to the end! Gambee, thanks for another incredible review!!! Like all the others have said, I feel like I was on there with you [emoji41]. I am curious if you are aware of your before & after weight? I will be on the Getaway in Oct, and I am afraid of what the drink package might do to my waistline! Barney Gallagher Posted June 6, 2016 #955 Share Posted June 6, 2016 Great review! Quick question, in the morning if you want coffee in a "to go" cup with a lid on the Escape are they available in places like the Main Dining Room or Taste/Savor. I assume you can always buy a cup at the Atrium but didn't want to buy coffee on a cruise where it should be included. breezy270 Posted June 8, 2016 #960 Share Posted June 8, 2016 Mom stopped to get a Freestyle, but she was shoved out of the way by this screaming lady who bypassed the entire line yelling out loud that she was not coming back ever. Do you want to know what her problem was? She lost her cell phone, WTH IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE??? Keep an eye on your stuff!!! By the way the lady in the green dress was the one who lost her phone, tsk, tsk, tsk… Feel free to shame her, she pushed my mommy out of the way for a phone.... Anyway, we got our Freestyle and moved on. I was recently on the Getaway and I heard a woman complaining and yelling at the onboard credit desk employee because her cabin charges which were many pages long did not make sense to her but yet somehow she knew that the charges were not made by her. She was holding up the line going line by line to try and identify the supposed fraudulent charges to her cabin. She got very angry when she was coming up empty handed. The employee was trying to explain to her about how they use the key card for purchases but she was not listening. She had at least 15 pages and it was only the third day of the cruise and there were five people in her party. I know all this because of all the yelling she did....I felt sorry for the employee at the desk. Also, I overheard one day on my way to the spa a woman complaining to one of the officers of the ship about the noise from the weights in the gym being set down on the floor. She could hear it in her cabin. What blew me away was that she was asking the officer to move the weights to the other side of the gym so that the noise could become someone else's problem...the officer explained to her that they are bolted to the floor and there is no way to move them. She was not happy.
vicocala Posted June 8, 2016 #961 Share Posted June 8, 2016 It has probably been answered but does anyone know when you should do the online check in? How far in advance should it be done? I do it as soon as I book my cruise. I like to get it out of the way so I can focus on my plans. It should be done at least 48 hours or more before your cruise begins. Oldsweets Posted June 8, 2016 #962 Share Posted June 8, 2016 I also have enjoyed this review and it has been helpful for our upcoming escape trip on 25 June As platinum members and stock holders we also stopped cruising ncl cold turkey given our frustrations. We instead just continued our quarterly cruising with our many other options. A free cruise from Casinos at Sea lured us back for another try. We started in a Balcony and after reading the difficulty in getting vibe tickets and that our flight doesn't arrive into Miami until noon we decided on trying the unsell line and moved into the Haven. So for us this is a real test as our last two Haven experiences were dismal with the overflow of unsupervised children taking over the pools and hot tubs. So this is a real test for our jaded thoughts of the ncl product. Thanks again for this helpful review.

gapearl Posted June 10, 2016 #964 Share Posted June 10, 2016 Gambee, you are a rockstar! :D I've spent the last few nights reading through this. I'm looking to take my first NCL cruise next year and trying to decide between the Getaway and Escape. You review helped me tremendously. I think I would really enjoy a NCL cruise. We've still gotta sail together one of these days and write that tandem review you suggested. :D Or better yet, take me back to Colombia with you for a visit. Cartagena is still one of my favorite cities ever! :) :p Thanks so much for your fantastic review!

breezy270 Posted June 10, 2016 #966 Share Posted June 10, 2016 Thanks for the great review and all the fabulous pictures. I was sorry to hear you had stomach issues. How did you know the oysters were a week old? Did you complain to NCL? We had the same issue with the oyster's on the Getaway cruise May 22nd. I ordered them at Ocean Blue and they were fantastic. I had them later in the week at Cagney's and they were plain awful. I spit out the first bite and told the waiter right away. It was not only you Gambee that had a problem with them. I could not get the taste out of my mouth and my stomach was upset most of the night as well.
canelle973 Posted June 12, 2016 #967 Share Posted June 12, 2016 (edited) Gambee, thank you for this review. It was wonderful, a lot of informations :D. I loved it :) ! Now, I have a better vision of the restaurants (menus), the shows, the activities not to miss in my future cruise (scheduled in November 2016). Also, thank you for your excellent & "spicy" sense of humor. I laughed a lot throughout this review, with your small stories that sometimes spice our cruises. The pictures are beautiful, especially those you did underwater or those taken from St. Thomas with the beautiful sunset. PS: I was very touched by your story on the 2$ bills that allows you remember your grandmother :o Edited June 12, 2016 by canelle973

Sent from my iPad using Forums The "to go" coffee is available in deck 8, outside at places like "it's five o'clock somewhere" and several other locations. We just got back today. Review to come soon. We didn't discover the to go coffee until late in the week.
jeff.witwer Posted June 13, 2016 #969 Share Posted June 13, 2016 Thanks for the awesome review of the ship!! I started reading Friday night and finally finished this evening. Will be sailing on the Escape next Saturday and by far I learned more about what/when/where from your posts and pictures than I ever could from NCL's own website. It has been 18 years since my last cruise as we have been beach resort people (mostly in Jamaica) and I am really looking forward to cruising around the Caribbean again. I feel much less overwhelmed now and feel I know a little more what to expect!
geekohio Posted June 16, 2016 #970 Share Posted June 16, 2016 Thanks for writing such a very detailed & entertaining review! I just spent hours reading every bit of it. Rare APDMOM Posted June 19, 2016 #972 Share Posted June 19, 2016 (edited) So sad to see that house fall apart. Mom said she saw someone walk inside. I think that is even a Helipad on top of the house. You were partially right about a helipad. It used to have a helicopter land there on the jetty that is now collapsed. When we were there on Fascination, the helicopter came and went a few times to deliver people for a party. Here are a couple of pictures of "before" this destruction. The second picture is the same, just zoomed in more. Very sad, indeed. Edited June 19, 2016 by APDMOM pic size and typo
Rare APDMOM Posted June 19, 2016 #973 Share Posted June 19, 2016 Sorry about that picture size. I use Tapatalk and the pics seem either way too small or way too big. Thank you for all your tips in this review! We booked Escape "last minute" for us, so this has helped tremendously with our planning. Congratulations on getting into PT school - second best career out there. ;) (But I am afraid your PT salary will not buy one of those sporty cars... at least it will feed your cruising addiction.) renza Posted June 22, 2016 #974 Share Posted June 22, 2016 Thank you for the review. I just booked for next June. I am a little worried about not liking it after going on oasis and allure. The pool deck area does not look good at all. Very choppy. It looks like room service has a charge from the forms you posted. Very disappointed, being we like to order a large pot of coffee in the morning. What kind of coffee can I take to use the coffee pot in room? Is any room service free? We ordered coffee, juice, and pastries with no charge. I think if you get hot food, they assess the 7.95 convenience for them charge.
