buckeye12 Posted May 17, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2016 The last time we sailed from Miami I remember seeing people on the rocks waving good bye... Where is this located and is there any hotels within walking distance?
brunello22 Posted May 17, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2016 (edited) That is South Pointe Park and/or Smith & Wollensky's on South Beach. There are many boutique hotels in the "South of 5th" neighborhood as well as a beachfront Marriott. Edited May 17, 2016 by brunello22
fishywood Posted May 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 17, 2016 If you were planning on heading out onto those rocks, you need to be both a very strong swimmer and able to climb on and off a surface simultaneously very slippery and very sharp and jagged. Those rocks are in deep water and not connected to the park by a path intended to be walkable; they are there as a breakwater for the ships sailing through Government Cut (the official name of the passage between the Atlantic and PortMiami). Capt_BJ Posted May 17, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 17, 2016 (edited) hint, pull the area up on Google Earth the south Jetty connects to Fisher Island and you can't get there!!!! Fisher Island is 'private' to owners and guests; you get there via a ferry . . . . So, look at the north side . . . on the beach, where the rocks begin there is a concrete fishing pier which is open and free (was free last time I was there anyway . . . ). I highly recommend you go HERE for your looksee and stay OFF the rocks. If pier costs now, the sidewalk 'tween here and S&W's is right behind the rocks ..... please stay off the rocks . . . p.s. a lil west of S&W's is Miami Beach marina and IN Miami Beach marina is Monty's of South Beach aka Monty's Sunset http://www.montyssobe.com/ ..... sit outside here and watch the ships leave while sipping a beverage and munching from the raw bar and or stone crab ..... there's even a pool to keep youngin's entertained Edited May 17, 2016 by Capt_BJ
