ES & New Gratuties Cost?

I know when looking for price protection you get rebooked under the new fare.

So if you had obc and the new fare doesn't you lose your obc, so you have to

consider that lose when calculating your savings.

I was wondering if pre paid gratuities work the same way.

I have some cruises where the price dropped but with the higher

gratuities it comes close to canceling it out

I was wondering if any one knew how it works.

The answer is yes. When applying for a price drop, your booking gets re-fared.

If you had selected Pre-Paid Gratuities, your grats will show as the current (increased) rate. So you have to take that into account when applying for a price drop and see if the net savings is worth it.

Really doesn't matter. You can adjust your gratuities to ANYTHING you like once on board. What they charge you are SUGGESTIONS.

I just ran into this yesterday. I had two ES bookings where the price decreased by $50 each. I submitted the online form for both and the price adjustments came in within minutes. BUT...one booking increased the gratuities to the new rate and the other booking's gratuities stayed at the old rate.

I called Carnival and they indicated that the gratuities should increase because it is "re-booked". I explained that it happened on one booking but not the other. They did not have an answer. During the cruise I will have Guest Services readjust the gratuities to the old rate.

Do you sail prior to August 31, 2016, for the one where they stayed at the old rate? The increase in gratuities doesn't go into effect until sailings after that date.

No, they are both in January, 2017. I did have gratuities added before the May 9th cutoff so in my eyes, they should honor the old rate.

"if gratuities are added to your booking by May 9, 2016 and paid in full by the final payment date, you will not be subject to the increased amount. "
