don1976 Posted June 1, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 1, 2016 Hi. We're sailing with our 10yr old daughter on the Epic in July and have booked a Guaranteed Blacony BX. Our stateroom has now been allocated to us and we're on deck 13, which is apparently a B3 category. Specifically 13085. It's our first cruise, so we wouldn't know what to consider when choosing our own cabin. It's about 1/3 of the way from the front - is this a 'decent' location ? It looks handy for the kids club at least.
MeHeartCruising Posted June 1, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 1, 2016 (edited) Hi. "Typical" things that people look for when choosing their own cabin are: 1. What is located on the deck above you - there could be early morning or late night noise if it is a venue of some sort (i.e restaurant, buffet, theatre, disco, etc.). Sometimes chairs dragged across the floor above can be heard below. The pounding of dance music can keep you awake, etc. 2. Proximity to elevators. Some people prefer or can't easily walk the longer distances to get to elevators and prefer to be close to them. Some people prefer to be further away from elevators because people sometimes congregate near elevators and talk, which might be heard in your cabin. 3. On some ships, SOME balcony cabins have a partially "enclosed" hull-like appearance to the balcony. I don't know about the Epic or your cabin in particular. It is still considered a balcony cabin, but some prefer not to have it since there may not be the full view of the ocean you are expecting. 4. Location compared to popular venues -- how close to the buffet, pools, spa, kids club, etc. Some prefer to be close to (or far away) from certain things. 5. Which deck you're on -- some people prefer to stay away from elevators, so walking stairs to the dining venues or the pool is more convenient from certain decks. Some prefer upper decks, some prefer lower decks. 6. Some people say that there is less motion in the mid-ship area which lessens the likelihood of getting sea sick. Cabins in the front and back tend to move around more. 7. Cabins in the rear of the ship often feel more of a vibration from the engines during operations. Personally this just makes me sleep better. But it could bother some people. To me, your cabin looks like a fine choice. Enjoy your cruise! Edited June 1, 2016 by MeHeartCruising
Rare BirdTravels Posted June 1, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 1, 2016 The room looks ok. Not too far from the elevator. Nothing "bad" above you. Enjoy! We have been on the Epic 5 times and enjoy the ship.
FreestyleNovice Posted June 1, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 1, 2016 Nice location OP, nothing to worry about! Your bed will be by the balcony, the buffet is just 2 flights up for a quick snack, balcony is a regular balcony with glass railing.
