Celebration Balcony

Recommended Posts

Hi all fellow cruisers,

I will be sailing on Thomson Celebration for a b2b cruise starting in July 2016 in a balcony cabin. The first cruise is "Taste of the Adriatic" and the second one is "Croatian Classics". I am doing a ship excursion every stop. I don't see the point in spending so much time and energy on planning and organising my own private excursions just to save £10 and have no guarantee that the ship will wait for me, if things go wrong. I have spent thousands of pounds on this holiday and penny pinching on the little things isn't what it is all about.

Any questions on these trips, stops, ship or anything else is welcome. Ask now so I can find out clearly and get pictures of the little things required.

I have been doing my own research on the ship and these balcony cabins (cruise critic and other sites) and have not found much, if any, information on this matter. Even Thomson's own website on the ship shows a picture taken before the balconies were built in 2012. 4 years ago and still they are using old pictures.

So it is my mission to fill in the missing details and show people what is missing. Good or bad I will post pictures of what I find. Are these balconies so bad that no one is showing them off, but if that was the case, then people would be complaining and showing us more. There is no decent video's on youtube showing a balcony walk around (that will change after I have been).

I will post a detailed review of my experiences. I have sailed Thomson twice before and my first ever cruise was on Island Escape (that got us hooked). I am a seasoned cruiser and will give an honest opinion to help others. I have a friend sailing on the second week cruise in a single cabin, so I can get details of that element as well.

So anything you need me to find out, let me know now, before I sail as I won't be reading this during the cruise. I'm an IT specialist and the wife makes sure I switch off on holidays and take a break.

Balconies are by no means ' walk around ' and about the same size on any cruise liner - just table and two chairs. The itinerary you have chosen is one of the best, we did very similar a few years ago.

Firstly thanks for the comment on the itinerary. I know they change a couple of stops every year just to keep it fresh but most popular stops remain, so looking forward to that.

As for the "balcony walk around video", what I was implying is a video that shows the whole cabin. I classed the 'balcony' as a cabin type and was not meaning just the balcony space outside. That would be a very short video, or if you could walk around, a very large expensive balcony and I would have been on the wrong ship.

I should have put the word 'cabin' in there to make it clearer, in case someone thought I just meant the balcony itself, lol. As if someone would presume that is what I was talking about. My apologies if that was misleading for you.

As for same size balconies on all cruise ships, I don't think so. Was looking at P&O for christmas and their cabins are sized 178 sq ft. Thomson Celebration is 204 sq ft. Royal Caribbean is 198 sq ft (all measurements are approx and don't include the balcony itself)

Hi SausPud don't know which cabin has the 204 sq ft but have ' visited' as a guest 005 and that's larger as is 002 but with a much reduced wardrobe space, cabins 021 & 020 are overlooked but you probably already knew that. Have only had a quick, change over day, look round of the ones on deck 5 & if 002 or 005 were not available I, personally, would go for them. Probably doesn't help you but that's the best I have😏

Thanks for the advice.

I booked my cruise over a year ago so a bit late now, but I am in 005.

From the deck plans, this one looks the biggest and has a larger balcony than the others. 002 is too near the lift for my wife to be happy. If deck plans are accurate (doubt it but close) then 002 & 005 are larger, followed by 021 & 020. Didn't fancy the ones on deck 5 as they are a bit strange being inside the ship balconies and where they are placed so low down on the ship.

Thomson advertise that balcony cabins are 18-19 sq m which is 193-204 sq ft

Thank you for that. Have heard no news or even seen a picture of the Canopies on the balconies but good news if it is there. I will get pictures for others to see. I think we are having the twin beds pushed into a queen size anyway so not an issue, but I did read somewhere saying that this room doesn't have twin beds, so that might have changed as well.

Looking forward to finding out all of these things.

Here to help others

Anybody whom has any questions for the Celebration, ask away as I sail on Thursday, but will answer all when I return.

I will try and get some decent pictures of the ship (inside and out) as if you google "Thomson Celebration" the best ship picture still doesn't show any balconies, nor does Thomsons own website.

Yes, the bed can be split into two singles. There is so much space in this room, you could have 3 single beds in here and more.

Pictures in video.

So what did you think of the Celebration SausPud?

Pros:

The ship is a great size for the more less known ports.

The staff are very welcoming and great service

The food is brilliant and lots of choice every day i.e. tried a new soup - cheese and beer. Lovely!

Go on the behind the ship tour (cheaper than other companies) and have tea & cake with the Captain in his Cabin!

Cons:

Theatre lounge is in the middle of the ship and people walk through during shows, very annoying.

When in port, anywhere above deck 6, you will notice the ship is vibrating. It's enough for you to spill your drink if you hold it when full. You get used to it after 3-4 days. It fully stops when at sea, only in port does it happen.
