Dream engine fire?

That can't be a good thing, considering a generator shouldn't involve smoke.

Well, "generator" is a flexible term, especially for non-technical folks. While the term "generator" to me applies to the electrical generating equipment driven by a diesel "engine" in this case, to many people "generator" refers to both the electrical end and the diesel. Technically it should be referred to as a "generator set".

If the smoke was coming from the stack, it would probably not be a fire. It could mean that a fuel pump on one engine stuck, causing the engine to have an incorrect fuel/air mixture for the load on it, and therefore it smokes badly. However, this is not dangerous in the slightest, and likely would be repaired within 4-6 hours. This would require slowing down while the misfiring engine was stopped, a new one started, and then the ship would be able to speed up again.

Yesterday: wake up call from Captain, "Do not be alarmed at the thick black smoke coming from the engine room. We have not determined the origin, but it is nothing to worry about!" Second notice from cruise director, "The ship has been slowed to a very low speed so that we can exhaust the smoke from the engine room so that we can determine the origin of the smoke. ". Next notice from the Captain, "We have had to turn off some systems in order to determine the origin of the fire." We already know. There's no AC, the waffle irons are off, and you can't get an omelette! But there is no fire, remember, and we were never in any danger, and everything was under control (fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh messages). Apparently, all is ok. Nothing seems to have burned up, and we don't seem to be in any danger.

Wow message from the capt and than something else has to be shut off. Over and over. Makes one wonder what was really going on.

We were in Cozumel last week (on the breeze) and the dream was parked right next to us. There was giant billows of thick black smoke coming out at the top- for a very long time. It did not look normal or like it was "nothing". Tney sailed away at

The end of that day- but it smoked for several hours.

This is interesting. We were on the Breeze last week too and the Dream was parked next to use in Cozumel. During breakfast, everyone on the Breeze went to the windows because very thick heavy black smoke was coming out of the stack on the Dream. We couldn't even see the island the smoke was so bad. We all thought the ship was on fire, but it was coming out of the smoke stack so we figured it was okay. It was 20 or 30 minutes before the smoke stopped.

WOW!!!
