Regguy Posted July 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2016 We're NCL cruisers and one of the best parts about cruising is that our teen loves the freedom, friendships and activities in the teen club. We're thinking of jumping to MSC and my biggest (actually my only) hesitation is what the teen club will be like for him on European itineraries. It looks like many of the people on these boards who sail predominantly on U.S. lines and who have made the switch to MSC are doing the Caribbean cruises on Divina. We're looking at Preziosa cruises next summer, from Hamburg, and I'm a bit concerned that language barriers and customs might make it harder for him to make friends. I know this is a rather specific question, but if any of you have opinions on this subject, please let me know.
kerryincork Posted July 5, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2016 Kids club leaders speak multiple languages, all the teens looked like they were having fun. Also a lot of European kids speak pretty good English
Regguy Posted July 5, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted July 5, 2016 Thanks. He has a little Italian. Just a little though. Any sense on what the composition would be out Hamburg on a Norway itinerary in terms of nationalities?
kerryincork Posted July 5, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 5, 2016 When I was in baltics, it was British quite a lot of Germans and Scandinavians as well as Italian, Spanish, French. They do all announcements in about 5 languages.
Regguy Posted July 5, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted July 5, 2016 Thanks very much. I think it would be fun for him, but, what can you do, teenagers . . . they have their own opinions about stuff.
Animalgirl27 Posted July 7, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 7, 2016 I sailed MSC when I was a teenager. The teen leaders speak several languages and there will always be other teens who speak English. When I was in the Mediterranean, most people spoke Italian, but some teens translated and some spoke English and it was overall a cool cultural experience. Regguy Posted July 10, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted July 10, 2016 One follow up question, if anyone knows. Is it mostly structured activities or more just hanging around (or mix)? Thanks again.
