May 2017 train

Hello, We will be taking the Star Princess southbound from Whittier on May 13 next year. As I look at the Alaska Railroad trip, for this year, it shows train service on the Glacier Discovery does not start until the end of May. Does this mean that the train to the ship is not an option, or will they run a train due to a ship being in port that day? Thanks

Best to go to the source, since none of us know their plans for next year. Email them and ask about the 2017 schedule.

I've emailed them a couple of times and they responded same day or next.

Yes, get the information direct. But the last many seasons, the Whittier train has always been the last to start up. Never been open mid May that I can recall.

 

There is an off chance there may be a cruise contracted train, so inquire also of Princess, if they are offering it. You are also way too early for Denali Park- if you are coming in days ahead. The Kenai Peninsula is a great place to spend time with a lot of activities available.
