On board credit

We have just booked a cruise and we have some on board credit which we would like to spend on excursions. we tired to book trips in advance but have been told that you have to book them whilst on board. Also that they could be sold out or more expensive. We have never cruised with Cunard before so didn't realise this could be a problem.

Are there usually still excursions available when you get on board.

Thanks

Yes, there will be excursions available after boarding, although priced about 10% higher than the pre-boarding price, and the popular ones may sell out.

You may have discovered that when you try to pre-book a shore excursion they ask for a credit card and take payment immediately. If your intent is to apply onboard credit toward the excursion your only option is to book after embarkation.

In case your trip is still a ways out, Cunard usually opens excursions for pre-booking about 2 or 3 months before embarkation day. This might be later than some other lines in my experience. Maybe this reduces the chance that a popular excursion sells out early. I don't have enough experience booking Cunard excursions to tell you.

If you go to book as soon as the excursion desk is open once on board you should be ok but if you really want to do a particular trip and don't want to risk losing out then book before you go. I believe that the excursions on the Voyage Personaliser sometimes indicate when they are becoming limited but could be wrong ? Perhaps others could clarify.

if you book online go to excursions desk immediately after safety drill and ask if they will refund original payment to your card and then rebook using OBC

Suppose it's sold out and there's a waiting list. Do you get rebooked right away, or go to the end of the waiting list?

Our approach is to book in advance for things that we definitely want and that might be limited. If we have OBC to burn, we will wait to see what's available once we board. But we seldom have more OBC than we can drink, so most of the time we prebook all the tours we want.

Have you actually done this before?

We pre-booked and paid with a CC,~~~ the ones that were obviously most popular.... mainly Petra in Jordan.

However, others who booked on board, even towards the last minute were accommodated. They just kept adding more and more buses for that lengthy and popular site.

And we had no trouble booking on board, everything elde we wanted, using OBC..... ( & not in a rush in the first 23 seconds on board)
