They notified me via email when it was implemented for the port of my next cruise. They should notify you as well.

We sail out of Baltimore in October and have not received the e-mail. Some do and some don't, can't explain why.

OMG!!! This is the worst thing can happen to us... I am always one of the first person to be in line... and have boarding #1 or maybe 2... We just booked our next cruise in october... and we will be gold... with 74 pts... so only one left to be platinium and the earlier time is 12h30-1h00 slot... THIS IS TOO LATE... especially because our flight is arriving at 6h00 in the morning... :(:(:(

Book a suite, buy FTTF or buy a Carnival Transfer. With all of these you can get into the teminal when you arrive, but you still have to select a time slot.

I think I will take the transfers... But how can we choose the time it says :

Pre Cruise Transfer From Ft Lauderdale Airport

Time: 08:00 AM - 02:00 PM

Can I choose to take it at 9:00? How does it work?

Thanks

You will have a time to enter the port terminal. This will be on your boarding pass. If you don't pick a time Carnival will for you, and it most likely be the last time. You will not be allowed in the terminal building until that time. You have to wait outside the doors. I do not know if you can enter the terminal and check in if you take Carnival's bus from the airport. Try calling Carnival and asking about this and how you can pick your time.

Sorry can't help you more. We are Diamond so can get in the terminal whenever we want.

When you get to the airport there will be people with a clipboard by the Carnival check in desks down by the baggage claim. You see them. I don't think you pick an exact time. They will tell you where to board and the bus will leave when it's full. I have never done it, but I have seen the process while waiting for friends to arrive.

Ouch - reading comprehension for this thread is in the toilet.

The answers to the questions about staggered check-in time, parking, etc have been answered multiple times in detailed ways - over & over & over.

Not sure if those "who just don't seem to get it" are doing so because they don't want to accept staggered check-in or what.

I disagree.

Say I know I won't be there until 1pm, but select 11:30. That means somebody else who wanted 11:30 may have to pick a later time. So, I get there at 1pm and find people waiting ahead of me or with me who could have checked in early and have been out of my way had I not used up one of the 11:30 time slots. Sure only 1-2 people is no big deal...but if everybody starts doing this then we have a problem. And it seems most here do not care for the solutions Carnival implements to deal with problems.

IMO you should just pick the time you actually plan to arrive. We are cruising next month. Every time slot was available when we booked. I picked 1200-1230 because based on past history driving to the port, we will arrive at the parking garage and be handing our luggage to the porters about 12:05.

Agree....There has to be some consideration....If you know you are getting to the port around 12, pick a 12 or 12:30 check in time....I cant understand someone in that situation picking a 10:30 timeslot, but yet there are people who would do that....makes no sense

I finally got the answer I needed! I thought you could check in then wait for your boarding time. Now I know you can't even get into the port until 'your time'! Should be interesting in Charleston. Will they let you park your car whenever you get there?

You should be able to park your car, just not enter the terminal

I know this doesn't answer anyone's question, but I'm glad I spotted this thread because I had NO IDEA they were doing staggered check in. I just logged into Carnival and selected the check in times for both of the cabins I have booked. whew! I may not be there at 9:00am, but I would hate to be stuck outside the terminal at 1 or 2:00 waiting for check in time when I'm almost positive I could be in the midst of a beautiful buffet lunch & Drink of the Day by that time.

I agree....it really is an easy concept....don't show up until the time that is stated on your check in time, exceptions are Dia, Plat, Weddings, Suite, and FTTF. Those can show up anytime they want. I think there seems to be this underlying thought process, for some anyway, that "I HAVE TO BE ON THE BOAT FIRST" and if some people get on at 10:30 but their checkin time isn't until 12:30, that really upsets them. As long as you get there 90 mins before sail time, don't worry, relax, the boat aint leaving :D

I agree lizardhowson. Writing skills seem to be lacking as well. My opinion is many read a post or two and then formulate a comment or question. Thus, They miss out on information that is vital to the concept.

Ok so sorry if I ask questions... I was thinking that board is for helping each others... and by the way if I don't write very well it's only because English is not my language... :(

Thank you to those who wanted to help

Just a note about Charleston....I have heard horror stories of people driving and parking at the port, but waiting in long lines to park....You have people that are Diamond/Platinum/FTTF/etc that have a priority boarding, but waiting in their car to park at like 11:30....they are watching other passengers boarding and literally losing their mind because they cant get the DOTD and get in the buffet line. A hotel shuttle may be a consideration for Charleston if you are a person that upsets easily :p

My comment was not directed at you. I am sorry you felt that way. Your question had not been ask or answered previously. And from your location I could deduce that English is probably your second language.

If you read through the entire thread the same question is asked and answered over and over. My comment appear in with response to yours but again was not directed at you.

As with everything else, people are looking to chink holes to find a weakness to exploit or hoping that THEIR situation is different and special. It is not that surprising that this policy is being enforced if you think about it. The people enforcing it are not Carnival employees, they are not going on the cruise, a portion of cruisers have always treated terminal employees like dirt and they aren't tipped.

Elaine makes a good point and I don't think a lot of cruisers realize that the vast majority of the port terminal employees are NOT the cruise lines employees. Now while the cruise lines does assign some of their employees to the port to act as greeters and answer questions, check in, the security works for the port (or a subcontractor). Their job is safety and security and they have little patience for the ignorance of passengers who are supposed to show up at 12:30, getting there at 10 am

And then scream at the employee.... Got caught with a delayed embarkation once. When I got there, the luggage was piling up, not moving into the terminal. The terminal was full to capacity and no more people were being let inside. I was close to the doors, in the shade with the a/c blowing out. The abuse heaped on the heads of the terminal employees was appalling. People needed to "use the restroom" and had to be escorted back out because they kept trying to stay. Can't tell you how many people tried the "my sugar is low and I HAVE TO GET ON THE SHIP" ! or the "my children are dying in the heat"

I hear ya....some of the best entertainment out there is go to a cruise terminal and watch the boarding process....grab a bucket of popcorn and a 6 pack, one of the best comedy shows you will ever see (needs to be a delayed boarding). One time there was a group of people that apparently partied a bit to hard the night before they returned to port and basically didn't want to get off. Boarding was delayed about an hour and the cruise line made an announcement about the delay and apparently they told their reps about the delay. The reps shared it with the people waiting (that probably was not a good idea)....so people are ticked off. As they finally make the announcement they will begin boarding, you see about 8 people, luggage in tow walking out of the terminal. Oh man, the words that were said, AND KIDS ARE STANDING RIGHT THERE. Seriously, it was a good thing security was standing there, I really thought it was going to get ugly. Not just pissed off guys screaming at these people. Women, middle aged women cursing at them like a drunk sailor....I was crying laughing so hard watching this train wreck. The line started to move and I wanted to stay to keep watching, LOL
