What happens to purchased OBC .....

Recommended Posts

that we may not use? I don't want to buy to much in case it is not conveniently returned.

In our experience, you will be refunded all of your OBC that you had put on. The only OBC not refunded is what RCI has given you. That said, the first OBC to be used on your sea pass is the non-refundable kind. The non-refundable OBC will be used up first, so if any refundable OBC is left, you will be refunded before leaving the ship!!

Any OBC that is NOT from RCI is refundable. Either it will go back to your credit card, if that was how it was purchased or you can go to Guest Services the last day of the cruise and request the OBC back in cash. Or as a last resort you can take it from the casino cashier for a 5% fee.

I was going to use a debit card (we are in the UK) and purchase OBC via Gifts on the website. Is that a good way or doing it or not?

Have always purchased by calling gifts and gear, but it may be available on the website in the UK. When we do this we set up a cash account onboard, that way you can draw cash from the casino without the fee, and then on the last night give them a credit card, that way if we have overspent slightly it is charged to the credit card, or if we have OBC left over, it is refunded to the credit card

Not sure about how things are processed for the UK vs the US, so might be a good idea to call RCI to ask. However, IMO, I would think that they would refund your unused OBC back to your card or in cash. On one cruise, they stopped my DH at disembarkation, and told him to return to Guest Services to "settle" our account! Come to find out, we had a $25 credit to be returned to us, so gave him $25 in cash before we could get off the ship! Nice surprise!
