I work at one of the cruise piers in Cozumel and whenever someone has a scooter, I ask if they have a handicap room. The majority say NO. Then I ask about where they park it. More often then not I am told they leave it in a wide part of the hallway. like an indented cove area, and that they just take the battery in room to charge.

I want to hear from those who have done this or sen it. Gracias

Again, do not post if it is only to preach!!!

Never done this as I don't have a mobility scooter but we've passed a few in the hallways before. There's not any coves or whatever areas they're taking about as far as I know other than elevator lobbies. They take up a huge part of the hallway though...there's sometimes barely enough room for two people to walk past one another without a scooter in the way.

I know you said you didn't want opinions but if you need to bring a scooter I would contact carnival and request a handicapped room or a suite or balcony bigger room etc

I have a mobility scooter and have always had a handicapped cabin after the first one. My first cruise, a health issue cropped up just a short time before the cruise and I could not change cabins. I was cruising with my son and his family and I would ride the scooter to my room late every night and my son would take my scooter to a public area near the casino while he gambled and find a place to plug it in completely out of the way in an unused area. His wife would then go get it when I was ready to go to breakfast in the morning. I always have my name and cabin number on the scooter and never had an issue, but never left it where it would be in the way of others.

Oh okay! My grandmother brought her walker on our cruise a few months back and there wasn't an issue. If it's one of the silver ones that folds it'll fit between the bed and the wall or if it's one of the red type ones with the brakes and the seat then it should fit inside the room (hers did)

Hope this helps!

I'm really not sure WHY you would want to know or care. Are you seeking justification for leaving a scooter in the hallway? Kind of an "everybody else does it"?

BTW, DH travels with a mobility scooter and we always get a modified cabin.

If its easy to walk from the elevator lobby to the room then why bring a scooter in the first place. The parking of a scooter outside of a room, whether in a hallway or (what you may consider) an out of the way spot somewhere else is a firecode violation and an extreme safety hazard. And I'm not preaching I am just protecting the rights of ALL passengers who expect their trip to be safe at all times. It is the blatant disregard for other passengers that affects my attitude toward the use of scooters (which are usually used by those who are, in other circumstances, not considered "handicapped". Bring a scooter, abide by the safety regulations placed on them. Can anyone even begin to imagine the chaos if every scooter rider thought they could park overnight wherever the heck THEY felt like.

I have already stated that I would be using a walker, OBVIOUSLY I am mobility challenged. I asked because of information I have been told by other passengers and because I am curious. On Disney they actually park and charge them in an alcove next to the lifts. I do not need a lecture, I asked for those who had done or saw something similar. Another person told me her steward would take it away and return it each morning. So ONCE AGAIN, those who KNOW of these instances please reply. Those who do not KNOW, don't bother. Jeez, SMH

Speaking from the viewpoint of someone whose mother has mobility issues, do not plan to leave your scooter in the hallway. My mother usually brings her lighter wheelchair and her rollater. It is almost impossible to navigate the hallways in a wheelchair with obstacles like a scooter. Please be considerate of others.

Nope. You specifically stated that you didn't want to hear about the need to park scooters within cabins due to Carnival rules, SOLAS regulations, consideration for other people, and your own convenience. You stated that you were NOT traveling with a scooter. So, just WHAT are you looking for here? I'm simply stating that I don't understand ...

Not everyone one you speak to with a scooter is going to have a handicapped or modified cabin, that does not necessarily mean that they are leaving them in the hallways. There are many smaller scooters that will fit through the door of a regular cabin and many people choose to accept the difficulties that having a regular cabin with a scooter causes.

Posted rules are usually the purest form of related information. Quoted from Carnival's website:

"Passenger scooters must be stored and batteries recharged in your stateroom. Due to safety considerations, wheelchairs and scooters cannot be stored in the corridors. Furthermore, the Guest Services office cannot store personal scooters, nor be used to recharge batteries. Your personal scooter should be able to fit in a standard stateroom with a 21" entry doorway. If your scooter is larger than 21", you must purchase a modified stateroom or rent a smaller scooter."

So what's the point of your post if you're not planning on bringing mobility scooter? FYI any mobility scooter that's 21" or less in width will fit through a Carnival standard cabin doorway.

Disney's policy is the exception as it states and I quote "Due to safety regulations, wheelchairs, scooters, strollers and other personal belongings may not be stored in public passageways and must be stored inside staterooms or a designated public storage area."

Disney's policy does NOT apply to other major cruise lines as most do not have a designated public storage area and require it to be stored in the cabin despite the fact that some passengers as well the ships crew members choose to intentionally ignore the SOLAS regulation. Believe P&O does not allow scooters on board if the passenger is not booked in an accessible and believe Viking Cruises does not permit mobility scooters at all.

We just got off the Magic. In our group of 17 people, two used electric scooters. One booked a modified cabin so she could park her scooter in her room. The other uses a smaller scooter (Travelscoot) which rolled right in through the doorway of a regular cabin each night. She did sometimes leave the scooter outside the cabin during the day when coming back to the cabin for a few minutes.

Some mid size scooters will fit in a standard room, when I had a Pride 10 3 wheeler it fit right thru the door with the arms removed.

I no longer use it since losing 400 lbs :)

Congratulations! You might have to change your screen name :)

Mine is a Rollator with seat and 4 wheels, can be used as a wheelchair if we have to. LOL my 7 yr old grson has practiced pushing me, just in case.

I use one of the rollators with the seat, too. PLEASE don't count on it being used as a wheelchair! They can (and DO) break if someone is pushing you while you are sitting on it. It is almost impossible to get a handicap or modified cabin. They fill up very early! I had a big issue with my old walker.........it was too wide to fit thru the doorway so it had to be folded and closed each time, It was also bigger, heavier and bulkier than the regular walker I have now. (It was a big pain getting in and out of the room!) But the biggest pain was when people had their scooters parked outside their rooms! Very difficult to get past that. Just an FYI....if you can't get a handicap/modified cabin, special needs department is very helpful in getting items that might make it easier for you. They bring in a shower chair and toilet riser with handles for me. Since I am not wheelchair dependent, I can get around just fine with a little help in the way of available devices. Makes a huge difference in my safety factor.

Enjoy your cruise!

It's the rule but hardly enforced. Oh yeah, the norm for Carnival.

They can also topple over. Friend was pushing her mom (who was seated facing her). They hit a bump, Mom went tumbling down got a concussion.

I have taken my mobility scooter on the Carnival Pride three times. We book a standard balcony cabin, since my scooter fits the parameters/dimensions that allow me to drive through the doorway into the cabin. On the last two cruises I brought along a walker as well. I use my cane in the cabin, and I don't require a handicapped accessible cabin yet.

I've had no problem keeping the scooter in the cabin. As I drive into the cabin the vanity is on my left, and the sofa is to my right and straight ahead is the bed. I maneuver the scooter over very close towards the bottom left corner of the bed, turn the scooter around, facing the doorway, DH moves the table that sits in front of the sofa down a little, so I park almost like parallel parking car.

I may have seen a wheelchair in the hallway once, but then again, I just drive one route when I'm on the scooter, so I may have missed other scooters that may have been left outside.
