Ok, I'll try again...Phase 5??

For some reason my other thread doesn't work....I'll try again.

One of the best cruise bands we've ever encountered is Phase 5...are they still with X ?? If so, what ship(s) have they been on??

I'm hoping they'll show up on Century in mid-February :D. We saw them on Galaxy a while back and really enjoyed them...(until the smoke got too thick and we had to leave  )...it would be great to spend some evenings with them on our next cruise.

Where onboard did it get too smoky? Are the bars predominantly smoking, non or mixed?

Forward lounge...Statosphere I think it's called...it was ok until about 11 then the smoke became very hard to ignore...and the smoking/non-smoking areas at laughable...apparently the smoke doesn't know where the line is :( .

Unless something has changed, all bars have smoking areas...I am so glad I live in Ontario!!

"Quebec...they smoke like it's a cure for cancer"

Ron James

I have a bit of asthma, so it does tend to shorten my evenings in the lounges onboard...I love to cruise but this I could really live without. Not to meantion the smell of my clothes if I persist in staying for any amount of time...the problem seems to be that the more people drink they more they smoke...by 11ish they are feeling well loosened up and the drinks, and cigs, are flowing freely...I go elsewhere...the poor staff though.

Phaze 5: Best. Cruise Ship Band. Evar.

Unfortunately, I don't think they're with Celebrity anymore. We sailed with them on Galaxy in April '04, and Teddy spoke of leaving the band very soon to persue gospel music on St. Lucia, and Stretch was supposed to be leaving the band as well, after a season on Horizon. Teddy's brother was the band leader, and he mentioned replacing the two singers and then going back to performing at Sandals on St. Lucia.

I think the cruises were a rough gig for them, and Celebrity was never going to let them grow into bigger venues like playing in the theater, even though they consistenly tore the roof off the lounge party and the island night. My wife and I love modern reggae and those boys had not only the talent but also a fire in them to perform. They played covers of weeks-old reggae songs better than the original artists did, and when their venue was near empty they'd play with just as much enthusiasm as a packed house if not more. I requested a song days in advance for our anniversary, and they didn't know it, so Teddy looked up the lyrics and notes on the Internet and they learned/rehearsed/played it perfectly...

Wherever they are, we wish them luck and hope we get to see them play again someday...

ZIG...thank you!!

I was beginning to think I was dreaming...I agree, great band, and as you say, they had a "fire"...I enjoy most of the party bands on X, but this band was special.

That's really disappointing. We were in the lounges constantly on Navigator and they were really well ventilated and the smoking areas were small. The nly place it was inescapable was the casino.

The authorized smoking areas are port side in lounges & bars. Cigars only outside aft port side. So stay as far to starboard as possible in lounges and bars.

Really?

I thought the whole port/starboard side thing was just for on decks, not in bars.

As far as ventilation goes, I often feel its the amount the venue has invested in it that matters most. In most of the mega-casinos in Vegas, you really don't smell smoke that strongly and yet, whent hey built the new one in Niagara Falls, something certainly didn't work out because it's like sitting in an ashtray. I suspect they just didn't go the distance in spending cash on ventilation.
