Smitty74 Posted July 29, 2016 Author #27 Share Posted July 29, 2016 Well this ought to be interesting. Its 4am, Im supposed to be heading to the airport right now to start this trip, but my 9 year old is running a temp of 101. Rescheduling flights for later, and taking her to the doc this morning. luckyinpa Posted July 29, 2016 #29 Share Posted July 29, 2016 hope your little one is ok and the trip goes off without a hitch. i heard that when you get onboard the rooms are all open. no clue if this is true. but we need more certainty as to what haven spa rooms have poles and dont. previous research indicates this: no pole 14128 14132 14136 pole: 14138 14140 14142 I'm staying in Cabin 14128 next week so I can grab a photo for you. I'm hoping that the rumors of being treated like 2nd class Haven passengers isn't true just because we're not in the actual Haven area. i hadnt read this but what are the alleged 2nd class things? i had to downgrade to a MA due to a change in roommates but i'm almost thinking about upgrading again to maybe the spa haven or hoping for an upsell. paulekrause Posted July 29, 2016 #33 Share Posted July 29, 2016 Will be onboard too. 3rd time on Breakaway, really miss having the Dawn in NY..... Always spa balcony. 9th trip to Bermuda (my happy place) all by ship (Dawn, Voyager of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas, Crown Princess). Therefore I will take very few pictures. Looking forward to snorkeling Margaritaville( sp) I hear in October.... thank goodness, I love the Uptown Grill! Also love O'Sheehans's Have dinner reservations for Cagney's and Le Bistro. Will go to Cirque dinner show, second City, and other entertainment venues. Will skip Rock of Ages...May or m ay not go to Burn the Floor. Time for a new show on this ship. Mostly looking forward to just relaxing on a familiar ship in a familiar port and not having to fly (I'm from just across the river in NJ so we take NY Waterway and then walk to ship. Wife and I will each have a carry on and a backpack. After 28 cruises, we know how to pack. Bon Voyage.
darlene62 Posted July 30, 2016 #34 Share Posted July 30, 2016 This past May I stayed in a Haven Spa suite and I found the Butler, Room Steward to be extremely accommodating, helpful and very caring. The few times we went to the Haven area I never felt that I was anything less then any other Haven passenger. My mother and I had a reservation to leave the ship at a certain time because she needed a wheel chair escort and we were later then we preferred to be at the Haven restaurant for breakfast due to the elevators and they were very busy. Our Butler seen us and came over to talk to us and when he noticed my mother's anxiety about missing her reservation he talked to the staff and they put a rush on breakfast so she could relax and enjoy her breakfast. One of my negatives regarding the ship is that ALL the venues we went to eat including the Haven at most times seemed to be very slow even at what we thought low peak times. That said...95% of the staff seemed to be busting their butts all the time. I think its a system problem not a staffing issue.
darlene62 Posted July 30, 2016 #35 Share Posted July 30, 2016 I'd be curious to hear how smoky the casino gets. Will you be trying for a Vibe pass? Very very subjective...I was on Breakaway in October and May. I am a smoker and when I was on Breakaway in October I could smell the stale smoke outside the smoking area of the casino but when I went in May I didn't notice it at all. Like I said very subjective. I am hyper sensitive to perfumes and some common household cleaning products that affect me but not smoke, go figure.....Now on the very bright side..because there always must be a bright side...while the beverage service in the casino really sucked in October they were spot on in May....I even felt compelled to tip a few extra outside the UBP they were that good. cruiservictor Posted July 30, 2016 #36 Share Posted July 30, 2016 My wife and I will be boarding on Aug 14. Several people have asked you to find out who the Cruise Director is. I would also like to know who the Captain and Hotel Director are. Thanks and enjoy your cruise.
17cruisesnsl Posted July 30, 2016 #37 Share Posted July 30, 2016 Enjoy your cruise! The good news is little ones usually bounce back quickly. If it's any consolation, it was very hot, humid and thunder storming in NYC this morning. We were on the BA in a Haven H4 in June - the people we met who were in spa or aft cabins only mentioned the walk to the Haven - no negative comments about the service. The Haven restaurant staff was excellent. The Haven bartenders introduced two new, for me, excellent drinks - the Toma and Mr. Worldwide. We are CAS passengers so we spend a lot of time in the casino. We've been on the BA before and this sailings' smoke level was the worst I have experienced. I really think it is dependent on the passenger mix (some cruises just have more smoking passengers), ones' personal tolerance, and how strong the air conditioning is. Looking forward to your review. Atlas the cruise isn't going to be cancelled. Ugh! Have been there before except I was the one sick as a dog with bronchitis the day before out first ever cruise! I layed low and slept for a day (kind of missed Key West) but quickly was on the mend. I'm sure your daughter will be much better in a day or two. Enjoy!!! PS just a word of advice - with some anti-biotics you need to be careful with too much sun exposure. I found that out the hard way with a rash that needed a trip to the ship doc for benadryl! Keep her covered with sunscreen and a hat.

Smitty74 Posted July 31, 2016 Author #42 Share Posted July 31, 2016 We finally made it to New York. Not the way I thought it would go, but that's life. Here we are eating New York bagels. We also found a couple of hours to go to the museum of natural science We are getting on the ship in just a few short hours. I am hoping to post a few more pictures of the boarding process before we leave port and I lose cell phone signal.

We were in cabin 14140 and it had a pole. It didn't bother us. sounds like butler etc were attentive even though you were 'remote' so to speak. this is good news should i decide to upgrade or get lucky for upsell. Gian was our butler, Geng was our steward and both extremely attentive! and noted about meals. go early so you dont starve waiting:) I have talked to friends who have been on Breakaway and some sailings it has been very easy, same friends who were with me in October said it was a nightmare compared to their last sailing.....So hope for the best, plan for the worst :) i'm assuming you did the spa room for the hot tub and spa pass. discounting those 2 things, do you feel you would have been better off upstairs in the main haven to get more privacy? I was traveling with my mother and she is very ill. I wanted to make this special. She knew the price of the haven suites and even if I could afford it she would have none of it...the haven spa suites she didn't notice because of how it's categorized . In addition because she wasn't very mobile I was looking for a cabin that was close to the elevators that were near places she would like to visit (CASINO!). The spa haven suite seemed to be perfect for us....well except what ended up being a minor issue.....the TA told me beds could be separated....NO! Unfortunately she was not feeling well and wasn't able to enjoy the spa amenities. However, the perks of the Haven and being close to the elevator to take her to her favorite haunt was perfect. It was best choice for us.
Sprasa03 Posted August 3, 2016 #47 Share Posted August 3, 2016 ... ALSO there's talk of the Uptown complimentary burger place being turned into a non complimentary Margaritaville restaurant. I'd like to know if that's true, when the switch is rumored to happen and what the Margaritaville menu is like... I just read that the uptown grill will be Margaritaville by Oct http://cruisefever.net/08032-norwegian-adding-margaritaville-to-two-more-cruise-ships/ - so I'll have the uptown grill still in a few weeks when I board. Margaritaville is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on most days. also i'm not familiar with this place. is the food that much better that it's worth paying for
