Bordeaux Wine Tour Recommendations

I thought CC readers who will be traveling to Bordeaux might be interested in my latest blog posts on wine tours there. Both excursions were booked through the cruise line, but they could easily be done with a private guide on your own. We overnighted in Bordeaux and decided to focus on two wine areas: Saint-Émilion and Médoc. It was a great way to get a feel for the region!

Appreciate from Mary these nice links and all of the great details/photos, etc. Wonderful!! We are considering a June 2017 Lisbon to Rouen sailing that would features two days in the Bordeaux area. This helps offer some good ideas and options to consider.

Cruzer Two: Thank you so much! I'm happy to know the information was helpful for your upcoming trip. Sailing down the estuary is an added bonus to the Bordeaux experience and a great way to arrive. Have a wonderful trip!

TLCOhio: I'm delighted that you enjoyed the blog posts! Thank you so much for the kind words, Terry. I have followed your wonderful posts and beautiful photos on CC for a long time...in fact, my husband and I took your recommendation and booked Anastasia Travel when we were in St. Petersburg on our Baltic cruise! Your Bordeaux trip sounds terrific. If you need information on Lisbon, you might be interested in reading about our two days there. It was a fabulous experience and a great way to begin a cruise. Appreciate, Mary, this very nice follow-up and your kind comments as to my help for your St. Petersburg travels, liking my postings, etc. Glad that things worked well.

Yes, I did look at your Lisbon postings. Nice!! Is two days there about the right, best amount of time there? Will be checking out your postings/info for some of your other stops. What camera do you use for your photos? What are your other upcoming "adventures"?? Any interests for Africa or the Amazon River?

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Enjoyed a 14-day, Jan. 20-Feb. 3, 2014, Sydney to Auckland adventure, getting a big sampling for the wonders of "down under” before and after this cruise. Go to:

TLCOhio: Hi again, Terry! Two days in Lisbon is a perfect amount of time. I was surprised how compact everything was and how easily we got around, even with the hills. If I had a third day, I would go to Sintra, which looks incredible.

I have a Nikon D5500 camera with an 18-140mm lens...very light, great for travel, just love it!

Our next adventure is Antarctica on the Seabourn Quest in January. First time in South America...first time in Antarctica...first time on Seabourn. I'm so excited I feel like a kid getting ready for her first trip to Disneyland :)

Appreciate, Mary, your follow-up and the update on your smart camera choice. Your selection is close to mine. I am using a Nikon D7200 with the same and very handy Nikkor 18-140mm lens. Earlier had used a Nikon D3100. For your upcoming Antarctica trip, you might also consider having their 55-300mm lens to allow getting more of birds, wildlife, etc., in these upcoming super-scenic areas. Need more details/proof on that lens and its performance?

In departing Jan. 12, 2017, from Buenos Aires, I hope you will have enough time in that amazing city before starting your cruise. I visited there in 1987 and learned so much about their history, architecture and culture. How much time will you have there before your cruise? We also visited in Montevideo. What are your plans for Uruguay? Need more info on these two areas? We have not, yet, done this type of sailing around the tip of South America and Antarctica in going to Valparaiso (Santiago), Chile. But, have it on our future to-do list.

This 21-day cruise is now on the sold-out list so it confirms that you have picked an excellent cruise. Our first cruise was with Seabourn in 2006 for the Greek Isles, Athens to Istanbul. It was a totally wonderful experience!!! Look forward to seeing and reading your reports.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

From our Jan. 25-Feb. 20, 2015, Amazon River-Caribbean combo sailing over 26 days that started in Barbados, here is the link below to that live/blog. Lots of great visuals from this amazing Brazil river and these various Caribbean Islands (Dutch ABC's, St. Barts, Dominica, Grenada, etc.) that we experienced. Check it out at:

TLCOhio: Terry, thanks for the camera info. We actually got a second camera for that very reason of close-ups in Antarctica - Sony RX10, 600mm zoom capability, no lens to change. My husband has been experimenting with it and is really pleased so far. We'll have two days in Buenos Aires before the cruise and are doing a winery excursion for our stop in Montevideo. Funnily, we were also on a Greece/Istanbul cruise in 2006 (Crystal Symphony) and I just posted a blog on Kusadasi & Ephesus this morning! Small sea!
