luckyinpa Posted July 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2016 They'd like to know what state you are from and every time i check out prices i've never put it. But when i did today there was no type of discount but it got me wondering, did anyone ever get a discount because of where they lived? or is this just marketing tool to see where you are from and that you are looking? it says Please indicate your state/province of residency because it could make you eligible for a discounted rate. A valid address will need to be provided.
SoccerSweety515 Posted July 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 29, 2016 Never from Norwegian but I've gotten NJ Resident Rates on other lines (Celebrity and Royal Caribbean)

weltek Posted July 29, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 29, 2016 There was one year they offered discounts for the states from the final four basketball teams or something like that. Until then, I'd wondered the same thing, assuming it was only going to give me something if I put in a homeport state (e.g., Florida, NY).

Rare mking8288 Posted July 29, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 29, 2016 Those discounts are long gone, haven't seen those email offers in the last 2 or 3 years, if not longer. Savings comparable if you qualified for (or not) the AARP or Latitude discounts, available then (and, for a very limited time after final payment cutoffs, with inventory of unsold cabins) But - you get one or the other discount, but stackable. OBC came from TA's so didn't matter if NCL was going to offer any, if at all. Carnival still doing it and can be combined with other promo's & OBC, etc.
weltek Posted July 29, 2016 #7 Share Posted July 29, 2016 For the one I saw, it was maybe a 5% discount and it wasn't combinable. We had a military discount for the sailing we were looking at, so quickly dismissed it.

jskinsd Posted July 30, 2016 #10 Share Posted July 30, 2016 I would not know. I never tried putting in a false state on a dummy booking to compare prices. Would it matter if it did?
taszmom Posted July 30, 2016 #11 Share Posted July 30, 2016 They do offer Resident Rates sometimes. The state varies depending on who they are trying to target, i.e. last minute from Miami they will promote to FL Residents because they can easily drive there. Sometimes they will offer Resident rates with an air promo because they can get a low price on the air from various air cities. It's always a good idea to enter your state, that's why they ask. Rare nunuc2000 Posted July 30, 2016 #12 Share Posted July 30, 2016 We've gotten resident rates for Canadians several times on various lines - the savings on Carnival seem to be the best though - we get the same price and benefits as the early saver rate with none of the risk. With NCL, it's been minimal, maybe $50, but hey, every little bit counts! :)
Rare www3traveler Posted July 30, 2016 #13 Share Posted July 30, 2016 do you recall the approximate savings No, because I live in the state of Washington, I was able to get a good rate on a last minute cruise to Alaska several years ago. Last Fall, I met a number of people from Vancouver Island, British Columbia who were able to get good last minute deals on The Sun from Vancouver, British Columbia to San Diego.
