Yes...that is correct. But she can apply them to her account once on board and then purchase the CHEERS package. But that way there is no discount... :o

Our first leg of 11 days was almost $1200. We bought $1200 of AARP gift cards for $1080, applied them to S&S, went to the table set up by the bar and bought Cheers, and of course we had our first drink.

I know but, it is a wash because it is $10 a day more when purchased onboard.

use it for shore excursions, spa, or casino, it will then be a wash. It's not hard to spend $1200 on board. When we sailed in January there was no difference in price if bought on board.

Cheers is cheaper when purchased ahead of time. Here is a portion of the Cheers description from the website:

CHEERS! is an all-inclusive beverage program that allows guests to enjoy a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages by paying a flat daily rate. Guests must be 21 or older to purchase CHEERS! and everyone in the same stateroom must purchase the program.

We have enhanced our CHEERS! beverage program to include a greater variety of non-alcoholic beverages, as well as a wider selection of high quality brand-name spirits and wines by the glass.

The cost to purchase CHEERS! prior to your cruise is $49.95 USD per person, per day plus 15% gratuity. CHEERS! can be purchased online at http://www.carnival.com/Funshops or by contacting 'The Fun Shops' Department at 800 522-7648, Monday through Sunday, 8:00am-12:00am ET. Cut-off for pre-purchase is at 11:00pm ET, the evening prior to the cruise departure.

Once onboard, the cost for CHEERS! is $54.95 USD per person, per day plus 15% gratuity. Guests can sign up for CHEERS! at the Atrium Bar, Casino Bar or at the midship pool area bar.

Currently, we are not able to process the Carnival Gift Card for Fun Shop orders. If you wish to purchase CHEERS! with a Carnival Gift Card, you may do so onboard.

For Europe cruises departing 8/06/16 and onwards, CHEERS! must be purchased on board for $49.95 USD per person, per day, plus 15% gratuity and applicable local government taxes.

No, you cannot pre-purchase Cheers using gift cards.

From gift card page:

To purchase Cheers or Bottomless Bubbles, please call 1-800-845-2599 if you would like to use a Carnival Gift Card to purchase Cheers or Bottomless Bubbles.

Spoke with Carnival this morning and was told they would honor the 49.95 pre-cruise price if paying with gift cards on board since they currently have no way of processing cards at 800 #.

I have heard this repeated before but has anyone had any luck with it once onboard? Or is there a way to get it in writing in case the ship won't honor it? We all know how inconsistent Carnival is.

Good luck with that, so many people have been told the same thing just to find out it is not really true when they get on the ship.

Yet another Carnival got ya. Its five dollars more per day on board. I purchased $700 gift card, and since I'm sailing out of NYC can't purchase cheers program until first day at sea. It'll cost me $50 more (10 days) for me it still a bargain. Love my beer.

I just spoke with Carnival and was told the same thing. Has anyone tried purchasing Cheer's onboard with gift cards yet?

This gets asked all the time and as far as I know, no one has been able to get the $49 price on board using a gift card. I'm sailing in 2 weeks and already have my gift cards for cheers ready to go. I'll ask when I buy cheers but I already know the answer...

That's ok, I'm gonna drink enough to make up for the $5 / day difference instead!

@FaithfulRaider (or anyone) How'd it go? Were you able to get the pre-cruise price onboard when purchasing Cheers with a gift card?

Don't forget the 15% gratuity on the $5. You have make up $5.75 a day- better go for top

Shelf :)

we sail on Sunday on the Conqest I had called the fun ship person and he said they would honor the gift cards, I also wrote to Carnival (in care of Mischelle) and she said they would honor the early price, Now I am worried as I especially bought the cards for that. Has anyone had this experience lately.

I replied in another thread but basically yes I did get the prepurchase price but it was a huge hassle! Customer service didn't want to even hear about it at first, I had to show them the Facebook post from John Heald then they sent me to the atrium bar to talk to the manager who wasn't there and the bartender wanted to send me back to customer service to wait in another 30 minute line to call the manager down. It ended up taking over an hour and had to get someone from Operations to come down and finally approve it. Until carnival makes this an easier process I wouldn't bother doing it in the future.

That said, in my particular case I got the gift cards for an amazing deal so I can't complain too much. But for just the 10% off... No thanks!

Thanks for the reply I would like to know if anyone else has that this experience since we are leaving so soon I hate it when someone from Carnival Headquarters says one thing and the ships know nothing about it.

I have heard you can get the pre-purchase price if using gift cards. Honestly, I am not up for the hassle so if they give me a run around, I'm just going to pay the full price.

I'll get the $5/day back in the long run if that's the case...if you know what I mean. ;););)
