Snorkeling - Better at Planacar, Columbia and Cielo or too deep?

We would like to snorkel the best reefs from a boat.

Would Planacar and Columbia reefs be good for snorkeling or due to depth of water/less visibility to see fish?? OR should we choose other snorkeling areas in Cozumel?

We've snorkeled Chankanaab frequently, but are looking for something different this time.

Thanks.

You can only get to Columbia and Palancar by boat, so I am guessing you are talking about an excursion booking. They will take you to the shallow areas of each reef. I know Columbia has an area, called Columbia Shallows so I am sure they take you there. Depth is 20-30'. Lots and lots of fish and coral.

Palancar is the longest reef in Cozumel, something like 5+ miles, and I am guessing there is a shallow area but I have no idea where. The shallowest dive we have done there is well over 40' where the boat drops off, and that to me is too deep for snorkeling. Maybe they are talking about another reef near there, that is shallower. No idea. Once again, I can guarantee you fish. Cozumel reefs accessed by boat are spectacular and fishy fishy fishy.

hope this helps...

I was interested in taking a snorkel trip to the 3 reefs mentioned, Columbia, Palacar and Cielo as advertised.

We've snorkeled Chankanaab numerous times and were amazed at so many fish. As you mentioned, I'm concerned about the depth of Palacar and wonder if it is worth taking a boat trip to see different types of fish or just snorkeling at Chankanaab again.
