Breakaway and Smoke......

Horrible. I think smoking should be banned from ships just as it has been on airplanes.

NCL is a family oriented line with many kids. The fact that the "smoking section" on a number of the ships is right on the pool deck (near kids areas no less) is crazy. And many smokers are oblivious to this fact.

To each their own if they wish to smoke, but please respect the non smokers and kids.

I'm sorry, but banning smoking on a ship is just not fair to the smokers, is not the same as a plane were you are off in a matter of hours, a cruise you are on for day's.Smokers also paid for their vacation and should be able to smoke in smoking areas! I'm a none smoker, but I think we can all get along we we respect each other

Just off the Breakaway on Sunday. Did not find the smoke any trouble. As a former smoker I am very sensitive to smoke now but except for in the Casino and even that was not unbearable there was not a section or restaurant we could not go. If an area bothers you it's a big ship go somewhere else. Went to shows in the atrium and never was bothered with smoke smell.

You would think so, but that's not exactly true. My daughter, who is a hairstylist, cut my hair in an aft balcony once. We got some hair on a towel and decided to just shake it off the back of the ship thinking it would just blow away. Instead, it blew back towards the ship and stuck to everyone's glass balcony dividers. So your smoke is likely to do the same. Your neighbours are going to love you about as much as ours loved us.

It was a great cruise and smoking was a non issue on our aft balcony. My neighbor on the left was also a smoker, and the neighbor on my right was never seen. My neighbor and I even had a cigar night out on the balcony. Some people on this site are making way too big a deal with the cigarette complaints. Oh, and we had no complaints.

This is why there are always complaints about smoking.....

There are always pax who continue to smoke on the balconies

When you have pax like this onboard who blatantly break this rule....you can understand why there are so many complaints about smoke

Btw there are 2 atriums...the incredibly small main atrium will be smoke free as it's far from the casino

The larger prettier 3 floor open casino where many great bars are and le bistro and some other food places are....will be smokey and smelly

Some pax will say it was bearable though

Those of us with clear breathing passages will tell you the truth though.....

You will smell smoke there

Period.

I don't have a clue what you are trying to say

Unless you are agreeing that some crude self centered pax just blatantly ignore the no balcony smoking rules or that yes the casino stinks of smoke

Actually we prefer mid ship low interiors for 2 reasons

1. We get incredible prices

2. We don't worry about balcony smokers because we live on the beach anyway and our deck is only feet from the water ...year round

Actually what I am saying is for all the complainers that complained relentlessly to NCL about smoking on the balconies, NCL addressed their issues and now all the smokers flock to the casino. I find it quite amusing. And to the people who smoke on their balconies, I say WTG!

Wtg? How pleasant of you

Is it any wonder non smokers are so angry at smokers ?

I know you are trying to bait me but that's not why I'm responding to you

I'm responding to you because I want others to see how some smokers disregard the rules and are extremely self entitled

Btw I couldn't care less about the casino smoke because even if it were non smoking I don't go to it

I'm more upset with the lousy design of the ba casino that allows smoke to sift out to the rest of us that are 2 decks away Every smoker on the ship can go and smoke there...feel free and I don't care if you play or not....I just would like to see it closed in.

As an added bit of fun if it were closed in we non smokers could walk by and observe you and your soon to be extinct human type...smokers. Lol

But then again I dont care for much in the ba anyway

And that's why I cruise on the gem

Once and done with the ba

Since smokers don't care about their own health nor the health of those around them, why would they care about the "no smoking on the balcony" policy?

You make an excellent point there

It's an awful mindset they have

I've got news for you the non smokers are a very vocal majority these days and you can bet casinos will become non smoking on ncl with in 5 years

And at some point after that the entire ship

Yes it will take time but it will happen

If you choose to dispute this feel free but just look around at some of the rules and regs that are now in place around us that we never believed could have ever been instituted....think clearly now as there are several things to choose from here. Lol

I do hope that someday you are able to "identify" as a non smoker....for my health of course

If you have been on the Breakaway, what was your experience with cigarette smoke? I am used to the casinos being so smokey I cannot go in them, but I'm reading more and more accounts from people saying that smoking is allowed in many areas on the Breakaway and it is very noticeable. I'm particularly interested in the Waterfront area. Is there a smoking and nonsmoking side, or is it a free for all??

was on the Breakway 9/18-9/25

I hate the smell of smoke.

I didn't find the casinos that awful smelling...walking thru, I could barely smell it. Which is good.

on the pool deck this is a glass walled off room for smokers. I wish they would make this room down on the 4th deck. waste of space in my opnion.

Just off Getaway and as a long time member on CC, I'm well aware of the smoking stigma the emanates from CC. I am not a smoker but will give my neutral observations from my very recent cruise.

The very first person I met on my cruise was a smoker asking if I knew where to smoke. I promptly directed him to the Sunset Bar, as we were already on deck 8. He was a happy camper. I actually ran into him again on the last night of the cruise with his DW and he thanked me for telling him all the spots.

I NEVER smelled cigarette smoke on my balcony. But I did smell pot/marijuana almost every night. Only once during a sunset and I was out there for sunset every night. It seems the pot smokers waited until dark to smoke and I kinda don't have a problem with that esp with so many legal states now.

I was often at inside area of the Sunset Bar, near the Cigar Lounge and that smell would waft into the ship. It was a sliding door to the outside and to the Cigar Lounge. La Cucina was near so I imagine it could have smelled there but I didn't eat there so I can't really say. I rarely smelled smoke at other areas of the ship except that mid area where the Casino is located. Once through that area, smell was pretty much gone. It did waft above and below at peak times but otherwise, I'd say not a problem.

That smoking room on the pool deck was OK when the wind blew away from the ship. But when the wind blew back towards the ship, it was horrible! You had to move or just be inundated with smoke.

Spice H2O allowed people to smoke on one side and it didn't bother me at all.

Vibe allowed people to smoke at the bar. So you only had to worry if you went there to get a drink, which you didn't have to do bc they would bring you one if you just waited a bit. However, most of the social fun at Vibe was at the bar.

Bliss never smelled of smoke.

That is totally against NCL's rules, you could have been thrown off the ship next port , fined as well. Your smoking is disgusting , and it makes other's not be able to enjoy their balcony.. AND is a complete fire hazard..IF You were next to me.. I would call security , and report you.

You are really going to fight me on this issue? I shake my head how anyone would go against such a serious rule on a ship.. There are NO ships that I know of that now allow smoking on balconies.. NOT because it bothers others.. it is a rule to lessen the risk of fires.. Do you understand that?????

Just off the Breakaway. I used to smoke and I thought it was absolutely horrendous in the casino. More than any other ship or land casino. You can smell the smoke from pretty much anywhere, on any floor of that atrium area. However it wasn't bothersome unless we were actually in the casino. But you definitely could smell it from a ways away.

Add me to the list...if I smelled smoke - cig or weed from my balcony..I would report to security, trust me

Umm and where are you going to tell them it is coming from? I was out there every day and I could not tell you exactly which room or even which deck that the smoke was coming from. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the same person every time either.

Unless it's your direct neighbor (and even then I'm not sure you can tell 100%) you're not going to know where it's coming from esp at night.

On BA/GA, the bridge extends pretty far out. So if they want to see, they certainly can. Not to mention, all the cameras. Don't think that was too high on their list of concerns though.

I was a direct neighbor, and was about 99 % sure it was them , and next day .. they were on them ,and what it looked like to be in very BIG trouble. It was very much a top concern on my cruise!

Oh you wish we could not be certain.. Be sure that when you complain they have very high level people come by.. they will be sure to get the right people. I am sure all they have to do is smell around.. cause you all stink to high heaven!
