CruisinCouple Posted October 28, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 28, 2005 We are Diamond member and in our coupon book we get a free drink in a souvenir glass. On the last cruise it was the last night and we had not used these yet so we decided to use them for some drinks during our farewell show. When the bar server saw the coupons she rolled her eyes and was less then enthusiastic to get these for us. I thought whats the difference to you if I get it for free on not. This troubled me for a while. A couple of days after getting home I was driving home from work wondering why would this bother her so much. She really seamed upset about these coupons. Then it hit me! Because the drinks are free there is no charge on my seapass card. Bar drinks have the gratuity added in automaticly. So I bet she does not get tipped for these drinks. So the coupon books are good the us there are not so good to the staff. I will in the future tip them when I order so they can get the compensation they deserve, and maybe a little better attitude which is good for all us cruisers. Whats your thought on that? premiumrican Posted October 28, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 28, 2005 I am a gold member and I get the buy one get one free coupon. I always put down a couple of extra bucks to make up for the free drink.
cruisequeen10 Posted October 28, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 28, 2005 Its like when you go to a restaurant and use the 2 for 1 coupons, you should always tip as though you have paid for the 2 meals.
heatherb1958 Posted October 28, 2005 #4 Share Posted October 28, 2005 I always feel a bit guilty about this one. We overcome it by not using both our coupons at the same time i.e.buy one drink, use one coupon, so at least there is some tip.
jkrislc Posted October 28, 2005 #5 Share Posted October 28, 2005 When I've used the coupons, I've always tipped for the second (free) drink in cash.
Nliedel Posted October 28, 2005 #6 Share Posted October 28, 2005 Hmmm interesting thought. Her lack of professionalism was a disgrace and I, thankfully, did not see it. Not to say it did not happen to you.
