stickey_mouse Posted September 7, 2016 #26 Share Posted September 7, 2016 Eh, one person's "clean & classy" is another person's "stodgy & boring." A matter of individual taste. It's not like NCL is not following a long-time maritime tradition of decorating one's ships to stand out: think of the gaudy painted sails of Phoenician traders, dragon-prowed Viking longboats, elaborate & elegant (& sometimes unclothed) figureheads of tall-masted ships... Speaking of figureheads, Disney ships have huge sculptured figures at the stern of their ships, in addition to the gold scrollwork that runs the length of the hull. They are all whimsically "painting" the ship's name. The Dream has Mickey, as the Sorcerer's Apprentice, directing a trio of enchanted brooms doing the work; the Fantasy has Dumbo clutching a paintbrush in his trunk. Playful & sweet. I agree, Disney's ships are fantastic. Even the elements of whimsy are classy and done just right. I love their use of classic cruise liners as a model for their exteriors. Their interiors are just as lovely and find ways of hiding Mickey in tasteful decor. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Love.II.Cruise Posted September 8, 2016 #29 Share Posted September 8, 2016 The Breakaway. That 15-foot high "Peter Max" splashed across the bow looks overpowering! I know it's the artist's signature; maybe shrink it down to about 10% and move it below the waterline. LMAO! We are not fans of the Breakaway Hull either, but it won't stop us from sailing her. ;)
Swells1 Posted September 8, 2016 #30 Share Posted September 8, 2016 Anytime I see an NCL ship, I can identify it by its hull art. "Hey, that's the Norwegian __". Anyone I'm with instantly thinks I'm a GENIUS! "You know EVERYTHING about ships!!" "Yes, I do" :D
Two Wheels Only Posted September 8, 2016 #31 Share Posted September 8, 2016 ^^ That's the point. Love'em or hate'em, people know the brand and the ship by the hull art. Carnival is easily identified by the "whale tail" but knowing the ship by name isn't as easy.
