Haven guests sailing with non haven family members

I just booked an H7 for myself, my Mom (81) and my aunt (79). It was the only accessible cabin left (except interior). My aunt just had a knee replacement surgery.

My sister and her husband and two teens have a family balcony.

I feel guilty of the haven perks. I'm sure we will all spend a lot of time together either way. Has anyone also experienced this? I wish it wasn't so expensive. I would upgrade them to haven as a surprise!

You can always telephone the upsell number after final payment and keep your finger crossed that a Family Suite is available. My DH took my DBIL on a cruise after my DSIL passed and was fine with a oceanview saying it was just us guys. After I kept after him he called the upsell number after final payment and got a Family Suite for $500 total. The brothers had a great time! I did tell my husband that I am too nervous to hope for an upsell so we will continue to book Suites. Just when he thought I might be convinced...LOL

Congrats on the Haven booking & wishing you a great cruise! I asked which ship since I wanted to share some info you may not be aware of regarding that H7. Assuming you are in 13106 since that is the only accessible H7 on the Getaway. (I am mobility-impaired and am familiar with the accessible cabin set-ups.)

How is your aunt with walking? Does she have a scooter or wheelchair? That cabin is allll the way at the end of the hall - it's a trek to the elevator in order to get to the Haven (I couldn't do it without a scooter - my issue is knees as well.)

Also, not sure if you plan to use the balcony, but the balcony in 13106 is a hull (covered balcony) and it's pretty small at that. It's cozy if you like a hull balcony - but it's not for sun worshippers :)

That room is also one single big room - not divided into living room/bedroom like the other H7 category rooms.

Here's a video of that cabin: (can't really see the balcony too well but I think I can find a pic if you are interested)

Another note on the Haven -- once in the Haven courtyard there is no elevator to the sun deck, however you can speak to the concierge and they will arrange for someone to take your aunt via the crew elevator if she can't navigate the steps.

I'm sure you will have a great trip - just wanted you to be aware what to expect (especially the walk to the elevator!)

You're welcome. It was a surprise to me the first time I booked it, but I had a scooter so I was ok. (I don't book it now because I prefer an open balcony.)

However, it depends on how mobile your Mom (and aunt) are! My knees are SHOT, so it's too far for me to walk on any kind of regular basis. Maybe once a day with a walker, but that's about it. But to more mobile folks, it may be very doable. It's about 35 cabins from 13106 to the elevator to the Haven - but that's more than 1/3 of the ship (and the Getaway is pretty big lol). See the yellow line below:

Maybe this will help you judge if it's doable. (Maybe you just get everyone up to the Haven and they stay put for the day to avoid back and forth?)

Anyway, I am sure you will have a great trip no matter what you decide! If you can get 16128 which is actually IN the Haven, that's the one I book and recommend. (I know you mentioned all accessible cabins are booked - but perhaps the Access Deck can check and see if whoever booked 16128 is actually mobility-impaired?)

Good luck! :)

Thank you again, pcakes122! I was able to switch to an H5 closer to the elevator! Now I have to convince my sister to upgrade to the H4!

I think with all of the PT in the next few weeks my aunt will be a bit more mobile. We have the insurance just in case. My Mom is pretty good but walks very slow. They will probably stay on the ship more than not, so I am glad they can enjoy the haven!

I have traveled with non-suite family. Sometimes we just met up after breakfast and did things together. Other times we ate with them in the MDR. You can certainly entertain them in your suite. It's only the court yard and pool area that it is frowned upon.

But it is very doable.

We just did Getaway haven with the rest of the family in balconies. It was fine. We would have used the haven more if we had not had them with us but it was still nice. We ate breakfast most days in the haven and then met up with family.

It was nice bc they did help us with bookings and included my family. None of us are lay by the pool people so it was not an in issue about deck access. We did have them in bar once, did not know it was not allowed, and no one said anything. We were in a spa cabin so they had no problem coming to our room to get us, the butler did chase my daughter off once and then we missed dinner:( bc we were sound asleep. It might be a pain if you were in the haven area bc they can not get in, so you'd always have to meet outside. The drinks in the haven bar are the best. Get a drink before you meet your family.:p

If you have a haven room I am sure you can bring others in your own traveling party (e.g. Other family members) in there even if their room is a non-haven room.

Yes. You can escort them to your suite. You can entertain within your own suite.

Non-Haven guests are welcome in the Haven suite but non-Haven guests are not allowed to enjoy the Haven lounge, Haven bar, Haven courtyard, etc.

Non-Haven guests must be escorted directly to the suite by the Haven guests whose stateroom is within the Haven. In the OP's case, the non-Haven guests can just walk by themselves to the H7 stateroom and ring the doorbell.
