A.S. Posted October 23, 2016 #476 Share Posted October 23, 2016 Thank you for responding. Do you happen to remember where on the check in form you stated what time you wanted to board? I don't see it anywhere, or is it too early to show up? The cruise is 7/17. Thanks again.
pcvtmom Posted October 23, 2016 #477 Share Posted October 23, 2016 Another AMAZING review (actually a two-for-one!)! Thanks for your time and work put into very informative cruise reviews. I've been a fan for some time now!
skipper918 Posted October 24, 2016 #478 Share Posted October 24, 2016 Jeff, I just finished reading your Fascination and Splendor reviews of Nassau again. We will be in Nassau in a few weeks, which hotel did you prefer, Breezes or the British Colonial. Thanks for the input, Michael.

We will be in Nassau in a few weeks, which hotel did you prefer, Breezes or the British Colonial. Thanks for the input, Michael. I enjoyed both but give an edge to Breezes due to the awesome buffet. Patti gives the edge to BCH mainly because it is in walking distance.

Cyber Kat Posted October 28, 2016 #481 Share Posted October 28, 2016 I only just discovered this because I've been busy doing a write up of our Rhine River cruise - but I'm glad I did! We have also done the 4 & 5 day sailings from NY to Canada, but I've been wanting to do the 7 for some time. We're booked on the 9/9/2017 sailing and it will be our first time on the Sunshine. Looking forward to hearing about your experience. We've got an aft wrap booked, so I'm psyched! We had one on the Splendor and loved it! Thanks for your report! Cyber Kat Posted October 28, 2016 #482 Share Posted October 28, 2016 This was an inside cabin. We chose not to book a balcony for a couple of reasons. Since it would be chilly at night, and we would be in port most of the days, we felt that we wouldn’t use it enough. Secondly, the Canada / New England itineraries are known for the sometimes foggy conditions at sea. If you have ever sailed through fog, you know that they blow that ear piercing fog horn every few minutes, non-stop, even in the middle of the night. We wanted to be as far from the outside hull as possible so we wouldn’t hear it. Our cabin….. For those interested in doing this itinerary with a balcony, I recommend booking as far aft as possible. We barely heard the fog horn on the Splendor and only outside, not in the cabin. A balcony is good for this itinerary - we saw whales! And wouldn't have if we hadn't had the balcony. We were getting ready to do the Behind the Fun tour on the last day, and I happened to glance out the door. I saw one breach and shouted "Holy sh*t WHALES!" DH came running and we went out and watched the whole pod swimming with dolphins. Highlight of the cruise!

MEUB1112 Posted October 28, 2016 #487 Share Posted October 28, 2016 We also are booked then. Do you mind sharing which hotel? Sent from my iPhone using Forums No problem at all, it is the Holiday Inn Express New York - Manhattan West Side, New York . According to Google Earth it is just up from the port and a block over. Reviews seem good and as we have never sailed from there I don't want to add a lot of what ifs.

Cyber Kat Posted October 29, 2016 #490 Share Posted October 29, 2016 Thanks for the heads up, and yes, I did look it up and it would be $3400 just for cruise fare for an inside, not including tips, insurance, air, and hotel pre cruise. And then what about our drinks and casino entertainment and excursions.... So it's not in the cards this time but I have been keeping my eyes open and my fingers crossed!!! Wow - that's a lot! We're doing the 7 day in an aft wrap for $2963 and that includes prepaid gratuities! They need to make the shorter cruises cheaper! Come join us 9/9/17! Cyber Kat Posted October 29, 2016 #491 Share Posted October 29, 2016 Thanks for dropping by Kath! The 7 day itinerary is one we will be repeating in the near future. You really set my mind at ease regarding the ship. I've read so many negative reviews. We don't do the shows much, so if that's the only place that's crowded - works for me! Thanks for the tip on the Havana Bar. Reminds me of the Rotisserie area on the Splendor - never crowded because no one knew it was there! We've been doing the Pride last couple of trips - LOVE that ship! We're branching out a bit. Did the Rhine Getaway with Viking and it was fabulous! We're looking at some of their ocean itineraries as well. And thanks again - now I'm really looking forward to this cruise!

If I had believed all of the negative reviews I would have never set foot on the Sunshine. I wanted to experience the ship for myself and form my own opinions, and I'm glad we did. Bottom line is, we would not hesitate to sail on her again. You can always find empty seats and tables at the Havana Bar for breakfast and lunch just like at the Rotisserie on the Splendor, but only better! They need to make the shorter cruises cheaper! Come join us 9/9/17! Nice to meet up with you again, Kath! I was talking about the Pride Journeys/14 day cruise in February, 2017. dogbert's mom Posted November 2, 2016 #499 Share Posted November 2, 2016 Thanks for the great review! Trying to decide which cruise to book next. The 2 contenders are Bermuda or NE/ Canada. After reading your review and the beginning of Gapearl review I'm no closer to deciding. Hope to run in to Patti and you on the Pride in Feb/March. So looking forward to relaxing on the Journey cruise. It's taken me a month to catch following our action packed trip to Barcelona and cruise on the Vista. I wish I had half as much writing talent as you and Patti's pictures are fabulous.

Sails from Tampa, comes back to Baltimore. Have a great time on the Sunshine. We hope to sail her someday also! :) Same here! Ah - that explains the difference. I was thinking about one of those Journeys cruises. We love the Pride! But I think our next couple of cruises will be with Viking Ocean - after the Canada one on the Sunshine. Looking forward to cruising out of NYC again and we have an aft wrap! One day we will meet on a cruise!
