icecake Posted September 17, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2016 We are sailing on the Queen Mary 2 to New York from Southampton on the 5th of November. What is the earliest time we would be allowed to board? Is there a waiting area where I can sit whilst awaiting wheel-chair assistance in boarding? Any other info or advice would be appreciated as we have never sailed from Southampton.
ged1967 Posted September 17, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 17, 2016 We sailed QM2 last December. Got to the port around midday. Got a seat easy as check in wasn't open. It may have been open for top tier and assistance pax. Sat maybe 30/40 mins then straight to security then onto ship.

Usually boarding starts around midday, or shortly thereafter. They'll begin with priority passengers. For those waiting, there are large seating areas and a small coffee shop. There are some photos of the modern Ocean Terminal, including interior shots, and QM2 waiting to leave, via this link: There is a lift/elevator to take you to the check-in floor. The photos were taken before they increased the seating spaces, and improved the security area, but it will give you an idea of what to expect. I hope the photos help. Please ask if you've further questions. Bon Voyage, have a wonderful Crossing :) Edited September 17, 2016 by pepperrn
zider Posted September 17, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 17, 2016 Have you told Cunard that you are a Wheelchair user & require assistance in boarding if you have then you will board just after the Grills & Diamond passengers so you could be onboard by 12.
jimmybean Posted September 18, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 18, 2016 In our experience, there is typically a rush of people coming to board at noontime. Nonetheless, we have found the process to be well-organized and artfully orchestrated by terminal staff. Print your boarding pass and have your passport and credit card handy. Then, have a most wonderful voyage! Jimmybean
Number34 Posted September 18, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 18, 2016 My ticket has a time on it. I had assumed that there was no point in being early. Am I wrong?
Host Hattie Posted September 18, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 18, 2016 We generally stick to the time on our tickets, there is a chance you will have to wait if you arrive early.
