Whatsapp & VOOM

Does anyone know if you need the streaming aspect of VOOM to get Whatsapp to work or will standard VOOM work with it? No need to stream movies or music, just using Whatsapp to make Wifi calls and texts back to the States.

 

This will be on the Oasis.

Oasis has excellent internet service, I expect you would have no problem.

If you will be purchasing an internet package for you and your son anyhow, then internet based texting would work fine.

 

However, if the only reason you would consider internet packages is for texting, then consider using the ship's cell tower. That usually costs $0.50 per text, so figure out how many texts you would be sending and compare to the cost of a 2-device internet package.

I wonder if they offer any discount for emerald. They give 30 percent off if you book it before you leave but it doesnt give prices without streaming.

If you are talking about your Oasis sailing, the Royal IQ app (with its texting option) is not available on that ship. Go with Bob's advice ^

You are better off with the current pricing, the Surf option seems to be gone - don't know when or if it will make a come back.
