Rare jimbo5544 Posted September 19, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2016 (edited) Have been on two cruises with coastguard evacs, it is comforting that they can do them. ldlewis45 Posted September 20, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 20, 2016 I was on this cruise. We also had two other medical evacuations (Grand Cayman and Cozumel) and we had a lady die during one of the Dive-In Movies on the second sea day. maldenmusic Posted September 20, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 20, 2016 10 cruises so far and I've never known of any medical emergencies that needed rescue. Just lucky for everyone I guess.
Julienatul Posted September 20, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 20, 2016 I've seen a few on my sailings. They do a great job getting them into the helicopter. It really is amazing to watch.
lucyddr Posted September 21, 2016 #9 Share Posted September 21, 2016 We had a group of 17 on the cruise and a combined experience of 37 cruises...and all of us remembered only 2 evacuations. This cruise was crazy in terms of medical issues. We were told that there were two deaths (one mentioned above and one hospice situation) on the ship, with other issues as well. Crazy week! Cousin Eddie Posted September 21, 2016 #11 Share Posted September 21, 2016 (edited) On our last cruise which was with a large group including my father, my wife had a very painful attack of kidney stones. We had to go to the sick bay for a number of hours where they examined her and gave her pain medication. There was a gentleman in there that was in very bad shape shape with cardiac distress. We were escorted back to our cabin where my wife was bedridden for the remainder of the cruise. At about midnight the following night, the Coast Guard sent a helicopter to evacuate the man from the sick bay off the deck. It was very impressive to see the crew secure the decks and the Coast Guard work their magic. Unfortunately my father and our group did not know we had been sent back to the room from sick bay and he was convinced that my wife was the one being choppered off. I am very thankful for the Coast Guard, it is comforting to know that they will come for you when you are need if it all possible.
