AlibearNS Posted September 20, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2016 We'll be dropping off our car rental in Waikiki Saturday evening, and as the ship doesn't leave till 11pm and the Ala Moana Centre is open to 9pm, we thought we'd walk there and finish off the day with some shopping. I've googled and it's a 40 minute walk back to the ship from the mall and we'll be tired after a full day out. Is it easy to get a taxi from Ala Moana, or do buses/shuttles run to the pier regularly into the evening? Which number do we get? I've just spent ages searching and trying to work it out, so thought I'd ask you guys for help :)

It shows a 13 minute bus ride & a 4 minute walk and includes bus numbers. The Bus website has the option to check bus options between two locations & costs $2.50/pp: http://www.thebus.org I don't think the rail system construction will affect your route but The Bus website alerts riders to any changes. kapoho2 Posted September 20, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 20, 2016 The rail system is not operational yet. Best bet would be to get a taxi. You will find the names of reliable taxi companies here on this board. I am not sure is there is an actual taxi stand at the mall. You could call the mall office and ask. When we have needed a cab from the mall, we have set it up beforehand ...usually with the cab driver who drove us to the mall, or we have our driver's card and give him a call when we are ready. Astro Flyer Posted September 20, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 20, 2016 Where would I find info on the rail system. :) As Kapoho2 & I posted it's being constructed & isn't operational yet but the homepage for The Bus advises about any affects on bus service. :)
AlibearNS Posted September 20, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted September 20, 2016 Thanks for the replies. I never thought to use google to search the bus times :o I'll take a look, but the taxi option sounds better if they're not regular. I'll start panicking if it gets late as the ship is leaving that night. What is this rail construction you mention, Astro? You have me curious? Here's the website for the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transit (HART): http://www.honolulutransit.org/ You can search online for the many articles about delays which like most government projects have big cost overruns & long delays in being completed. Here's a quote from June 2016: "The Honolulu rail project may cost as much as $7.967 billion to build and likely won’t be completed until April 2024, the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation acknowledged Wednesday". http://www.civilbeat.org/2016/06/hart-honolulu-rail-faces-1-14-billion-shortfall-may-cost-8-billion/ I don't have a clue when it'll actually be done but it keeps getting later & more expensive. Rosefloater Posted September 20, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 20, 2016 We took a bus from the Ala Moana Center back to pier 11 last year. We got on a bus on Ala Moana Blvd. in front of the Center and asked the driver to let us know when to get off. We were let off near Ruths Chris Steakhouse. It was about a 5 minute walk to the ship. The route # was either 19 or 20. Check out Honolulu's bus website. http://www.thebus.org/

cccole Posted September 21, 2016 #10 Share Posted September 21, 2016 If you are a Uber user, you can put in the addresses and get an idea of what an Uber would cost. If it is your first Uber ride you may get a first time discount. Uber seems to be doing well in Honolulu. Cherie
