themartinigirl Posted September 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 26, 2016 My husband and myself, as well as his two brothers and their wives have booked a cruise for this coming January on Serenade of the Seas. We were not told that the 3 staterooms we booked have obstructed balconies, we found out after booking on deckplans.com. We have tried to change staterooms, but the cruise is sold out. Has anyone stayed in #8162 or one of the 8th floor balcony staterooms that has the ladder/window cleaning aparatus, and how bad is the obstruction? We've been told that it is a 70% obstruction for 2 of the staterooms and 20% obstruction for the other. Pictures? Thanks
cb at sea Posted September 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 26, 2016 The window washing equipment, while visible OVER your head, really doesn't obstruct ANYTHING at all! Please don't worry! It's no where near as bad as they make it out to be!!

hoffyhof Posted September 26, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 26, 2016 It is not a problem. If 1 of you has the end cabin your balcony will be large enough to have a lounge hair.

I took these photos on purpose for fellow CC'ers like yourselves so that they can see which cabins may possibly be affected. 8162 is 3rd from the aft, 2nd row of balconies up fro the lifeboats, basically right in front of the washing equipment so there is full obstruction unlike what cb_at_sea said in the previous post. Hope this helps http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=50938766&highlight=more#post50938766
themartinigirl Posted September 27, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted September 27, 2016 Thanks for the responses with the pictures, it does help. The ladder apparatus is definitely there, but no where as bad as I thought it would be. I guess we'll see once we're on the ship...I will be taking pictures to post for this specific cabin for anyone else in the future.
