Take Cozumel off West Carib Routes for Upcoming Cruises

I would like to know when RCL will "GET Real" and remove Cozumel from the list of stops on our 6 night cruise. Granted we don't sail until February of 2006 (Jewel of the Seas) but all the reports that I have been reading seem to indicate that its not realistinc to think that cruise ships will be able to visit the post in large numbers. That said I would like to know when or why RCL cannot make a business decision NOW to tell upcoming cruisers where they will be headed (additional port of call) if they do not pull into Cozumel. Let's get real and get the information out. For God's sake make a business decision.

Yep, I will bet you are there in February too...

Let's get real. Do you really think the cruiseline is going to reprint their cataloges and change their websites based on information they do not have... IE when Cozumel will be reopened as a port.

I will put some money on that stop also. RCCL's pier should be totally repaired by that time even. The Carnival pier will probably take about a year but the town will be ready to accept ships by the 14th. School is also scheduled to start back on the 14th which I am sure is so everyone possible including lids can work to get things back. Remember that President Fox of mexico is from Cozumel, so that for sure does not hurt things.

They are making a business decision. They are making decisions about the immediate cruises they have reliable information about. To make decisions about February at this point would be at best a crap shoot.I am sure there is noone wanting to have this all figure out ASAP as the people at RCI.

If you read your documents that are sent out a month before your cruise, they say that the cruise line has the right to change a port without notice. (Most of the time ports are not changed except for hurricanes and lightning storms.) RCCL has changed thier website for the Enchantment and a couple other ships that were originally scheduled to go to Cozumel and most are going to Costa Maya instead. If you are sailing in the next few months, you will have to keep in contact with RCCL for updates as to where your ship will go. A hurricane is not RCCL's fault so don't blame them if the dock is not open.

sorry dianco -I think you might be bored and trying to stir up something that doesn't need to be stirred. Try researching the situation - it is EXTREMELY reasonable to believe that your cruise will still make Cozumel. Asking them to make a business decision right NOW for a cruise 4 months away is ridiculous given the current situation.

I'll let you know how Cozumel is when we are there December 2 since I believe from all my research we will still make it. Not expecting RCCL to guarantee that at this point, but it is a reasonable expectation.

Not to cause major problems, but has anyone else noticed that the OP only has 2 posts (at least, as of this post)? I've noticed a trend here on CC...

I, personally, am looking forward to the stop in Cozumel (specifically, the Mayan ruins at Tulum) on December 2nd!

Viva Mexico!

IMHO, what difference does it make whether you know where you are going to stop at NOW???? The cruise is several months away, and I'm sure that if the Cozumel stop is altered, you will know before you sail. WHAT's THE RUSH!! Chill out!!

Yes the boards state they will resume 11/14 I spoke to my agent today. She said they will prob not stop there. I told her accoroding to info on Cruise Critic they will. So it will be a wait and see game here.

I am worried that Coz is not going to be a "destination" port on the same level as it was for some time. I do believe that either the peir will be repaired or tenders made available, but the reason we go there is for shopping and entertainment. The pictures show a lot of destruction and the postings make it appear that the beaches are in very poor shape.

RCCL will make a good decision I am sure, but if I were booking a resort right now, I would not even consider booking in Coz. Costa Maya and Belize are very close, and RCCL has eliminated Ocho Rios and MoBay from many of its cruises...so it does have options. Elsewhere on CC there is a post that Costa Maya is adding tenders to support more ships.

I'll wait and see, but right now we are booked on a RCCL cruise with a stop in Coz in December.

I am going Dec 4th and one of our stops is Cozumel. This is my first cruise (and I am 62) so I was looking forward to Coz more than anywhere but I will wait and see, I dont care where we go as long as we go, even an extra day at sea is fine with me. I am just thankful to be cruising.

Well, I'm leaving in about 2 weeks and have no idea whether or not we're going to Cozumel. I'm fine either way, although my kids are naturally disappointed that we won't be able to dolphin swim. I'm really beyond stressing over going to Coz vs. not going at this point.

However, I'm really angry with RCCL right now as their website won't allow me to cancel my dolphin swim excursion and get a refund. I am still well within the required ten days. When I call customer service they just shrug their shoulders (figuratively ;)) and tell me they have no control over their website. My TA and I have been trying to resolve this for 2 days now and getting nowhere. I guess their computer system is an entity unto itself, sort of like HAL in Space Odyssey. How much you wanna bet this situation will drag on until I AM within the ten days and then they will tell me I can't cancel.

Even if the computer system won't let you cancel now, you can still cancel once you get on the ship up to 24 hours before the excursion. Of course, you will get your money back as onboard credit instead of on your CC. And if they cancel the excursion (which I'm sure will happen once they figure out where you are going even if it is Cozumel), you will get your money back the same way.

Yep, I understand that. But I don't WANT onboard credit. I want my $870 back right now so that I can do other things with it. I'm probably paranoid (like HAL :D) but I have a very hard time trusting RCCL with my money when they aren't exactly thrilling me with their customer service right now. Who knows what manner of excuses might be given later about why I can't get my refund until 4 - 6 weeks after the cruise, etc. I just want what they advertise - cancellation of my excursion with no problem.

I'm with you Linda . This is my 7th cruise , but I'll be happy just being on vacation with my kids and parents . It would be fine with me if we went , I'll spend some money to help them out , if we don't go I wouldn't mind any other port or even a day at sea . We are leaving in 3 weeks and I'm so excited :) WOOOHOOOO !

We'll be there the day after Thanksgiving. Will post all about it, of course, but by that time, the Nov. 14th ships will have already been there, back and posted. No, it's not going to be the same. I guess I'm not overly concerned. Mexico said Nov 14th the cruise ships would be welcome, and I believe them. I'll be bummed if, for some reason, we DON'T go to Coz - but I'm not going to get my bathing suit in a bunch worrying about it. Just as long as WHEREVER we go has cheap tequila, I'm good. :D

Heavenly days, I don't blame you for not wanting an $870 on board credit!! I would have a difficult time spending that amount on the ship. Well, on second thought, there is a jewelry store on board. And alcohol. And a casino. And ..........:D
