travelbug4 Posted October 6, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2016 Hello. We are considering cruising on the Pearl in Alaska next summer. Does anyone know if it has a waterslide for kids? (14 and 12). I've seen it in one picture but then everywhere else I search there is no slide. We have always sailed Disney but the prices are so much better on NCL. Has anyone tried both? Are they comparable? Thanks so much!
Tarheel_Cruiser Posted October 6, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2016 From what I understand, Pearl took out the slide some time ago.
Rare G-DawgMN Posted October 6, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 6, 2016 We were on the Pearl last week. There is no longer a waterside on it. Sent from my SM-G920V using Forums mobile app
Rare G-DawgMN Posted October 6, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 6, 2016 *waterslide was the correct word.......I am pretty sure there is still a waterside :) missed one letter and changed the whole context of my response 😊 Sent from my SM-G920V using Forums mobile app
perkydebrajean Posted October 6, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 6, 2016 They use the Pearl for a lot of music charters. They removed the slide to probably provide more deck space. Sent from my SM-G930P using Forums mobile app

I've seen it in one picture but then everywhere else I search there is no slide. We have always sailed Disney but the prices are so much better on NCL. Has anyone tried both? Are they comparable? Thanks so much! We've been on the Gem which is nearly the same as Pearl and also been on Wonder plus the other DCL ships. With kids that age and what DCL has been charging lately (even worse than before) I'd go on the Pearl. While DCL does it right, you'll have a port intensive trip and it really won't be all that warm for the pool use. If you haven't researched much on NCL do so and note what things will be extra like costs on the "free" drink and dining packages. Most folks on here will be helpful in explaining things. jpcdds6 Posted October 6, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 6, 2016 Pearl will be going through a total refurb. before you sail. The Gem (sister ship) has been done already and I think it does have a new slide.
rigs32 Posted October 7, 2016 #9 Share Posted October 7, 2016 The slide was removed in 2013 or 2014 to accommodate sight lines for the music cruises. My understanding is that the plan for the refurb this winter is to open even more sight lines and there will not be a slide installed.
