Steve H, have stayed at the Rodeway Inn. Not too pricey, in CAD, if you book far enough ahead. Rooms basic and well used.They offer an airport shuttle from FLL at times other than when the Port Everglades shuttle is operating. Naturally there is a no cost shuttle to the pier. There is a charge if you want to leave on an earlier shuttle to miss the 'rush'. A so-so continental type breakfast was included that should tide you over until you hit the ship's buffet after boarding. Rodeway is a very hectic place that is usually jammed so as long as you can be in that type of environment, you'll be alright. Do not expect the Empress. Good luck...

OP, they are both pretty dismal in a not great area.

 

There has to be something on hotwire for a similar price for a better hotel in a far better location.
