My 8 yr old just completed her PADI Seal-ear problems

Books..... YES. The Paul Humann series is fantastic. We got them years ago, but I am sure they are still available. The Reef Fish of Caribbean, Reef Creature, and Reef Coral. Also the Fish Behavior book by his is fantastic. Great Christmas gifts, too. Those books are like gold. We used to take them on vacation with us and when we got home from diving each day, look up the fish we saw.

 

Seahorses.... they are usually going to be deeper than snorkeling depths. In Roatan we found them between 30' deep to 90' deep. Our last trip we had a hard time keeping up with our divemaster as he kept pointing them out on one dive.... we had 6 of them! Cozumel we have seen them shallower, but still 30-50' deep. Roatan is awesome because they are so common there. Bonaire has frogfish, we found those as shallow as 10' deep in some places but they move around alot.

 

Just another reason you need to get certified.

Paul Humann!!! I know him! Well, not really but know him from somewhere. Does he have a show? I'm pretty sure I have seen him on t.v. or something when my daughter was watching something on there (she watches a lot of National Geographic, Shark Week, and so on...she's a weird kid that doesn't, and has never, sat around watching cartoons or kid shows).

 

I looked the books up and was able to find them in a set, hardcover (because I just HAD to have hardcover) and bought them. Thanks so much!

 

I just hope it arrives before vacation and I'll take it along with me. :D

 

 

So...earlier today, my daughter ask "Next time we go to the movies, can we go see jaws?" :eek: I took her to Newport Aquarium (because they had the Mermaids there) and she insisted that when she grows up and becomes a mermaid for everyone to see in a tank, she's picking the tank with the sharks in it to swim! She wanted in the tank with the "Sand Tiger Sharks"! I don't know if they are mean or not but the snaggel-tooth face was enough to give me heart palpitations. :eek:

I suggest your next purchase is the "Reef Fish Behavior" book by Humann. When I got it, I sat and read it from cover to cover. It is fascinating! I learned so much about the different types of fish and where to find them, what they are doing all day, etc. It made finding particular fish so much easier understanding what they were doing and where to find them. I had no idea that angelfish mate for life (you always see them in pairs) but parrotfish live in a harem with one male, and when the male dies one of the females changes sex to take his place. So cool.

I do have to say that I did know about the parrotfish. I believe that my daughter told me :eek: LOL She probably knows more about animals that I ever did. She's always telling me about animals in the wild and weird stuff I have never heard of. :p
