Glacier Bay 2018?

Why doesn't Carnival show any 7 day itineraries to Glacier Bay for 2018? I asked the future cruise specialist about it on our cruise a few weeks ago and, she said I was the first person to ask about it. She thought it was strange but didn't know why there are only Tracy Arm Fjord bookings. I called Carnival yesterday about it, and the reservationists didn't know anything about it either. She said that the Legend appears booked up for 2018 for just Tracy Arm and it is unlikely it would be going to Glacier Bay that year for 7 day trips.

For 2017, the Miracle is doing a 'Journey's' Cruise in September RT from LA including Glacier Bay.

 

Could be they are tracking the popularity of this to determine if a similar event in 2018 should be offered.

 

I am very interested in the 2017 Journey's event but not sure I can talk the hubby into it....

I think it is hard for Carnival to get the Glacier Bay slots. They don't allow many ships into the Bay at a time.

I had read somewhere a while back about the limited amount of slots, but was sorry to see that Carnival wasn't getting any of them- other than the Journeys trip. I would love to do that trip but could never get 2 weeks off.

There are two cruise ships allowed in GB a day. HAL and Princess have things pretty much locked up.

When I did Alaska in 2015 only two Carnival ones went to Glacier Bay - first and last. They don't get many passes.

I chose Princess for our Alaskan adventure - we did a land/cruise. Started in Fairbanks, went south through Denali, saw McKinley, river rafted and train to Anchorage, then boarded ship in Whittier, to Hubbard, Glacier Bay, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan and Vancouver.

 

By doing the one way cruise, you get to see more of Alaska than a RT Seattle.

I've heard that the limited number of passes available are offered to cruise lines on a seniority bases. Cruise lines that have been cruising Alaska longer, like Holland America, get seniority. Apparently there were none left for Carnival, unfortunately. I'm glad my Alaska cruise next year has it on the itinerary!

When we booked our Aug. 15, 2017 Alaska cruise back in May the original itinerary included Tracy Arm Fjord. Sometime after that they switched us to Glacier Bay. I am super excited!

Apparently there were none left for Carnival, unfortunately. I'm glad my Alaska cruise next year has it on the itinerary!

 

 

If that is true then will Disney not be going to Glacier Bay? I think they would be the most recent addition to the cruise lines up that way. I remember seeing a Disney ship in Seattle about 4 or 5 years ago, but I don't know if the Disney ship ever went to Glacier Bay.
