Any RCI changes?

Recommended Posts

We are sailing on Explorer in March 2017. It will have been 2 years since our last cruise, which was on Rhapsody.

Have there been any changes to the way RCI does things that are worth knowing about? Eg. Can you still take 2 bottles of wine on board/cabin? Can you take them to the restaurant with no charges?

Thank you😁

Yes, two bottles of wine per cabin allowed and no corkage or restaurant restriction.

Just remember that these two bottles need to be in your carry on luggage. If you pack them in your luggage you will be called to the 'naughty room' and have your suitcase searched.

We have had them packed in our suitcases, no problem. Restocked with another two bottles in NZ in our backpack - no problem. Did the same in Melbourne and got them impounded. Its the luck of the draw depending on who's doing the security that day.

Cruised from Hawaii to Sydney on Rhapsody's first ever voyage to Australia, and another to Vanuatu and the islands a few years ago. Absolutely fab.

But our recent 14-day cruise from Singapore to Sydney on Voyager turned into a shocker.

The original Royal Caribbean service seems to have thrown overboard!

Many indications of penny-pinching now and examples of 'couldn't care less' attitude from staff.

My Time Dining (even though booked 18 months in advance and again confirmed a couple of months ago) never eventuated and 10 hours of waiting for shuttles over three days were just two prime examples.

Promise after promise from Guest Services never materialised.

The captain summed it up nicely during his question and answer presentation on stage when he twice indicated that RI's shareholders had be kept happy. What about his passengers???

Would I cruise with RI again? I don't think so.

If we buy some wine whilst in NZ will it be taken away forever, or given back at the end of the cruise to our cabin?

We have to tender in/out in Sydney harbour due to RCI double booking the OPT with Ovation (a major headache for us travelling to White Bay), and wouldn't want to spend a lot on delicious NZ wines for them to go missing because we can't walk off the ship upon disembarkation.

Yes, they are returned at end of cruise.

Another time (not RCI, may have been Princess), in Napier, we bought a half dozen bottles of an organic white wine we had been especially looking for and they allowed us to take them to our cabin.
